I have never heard of anyone who has a reputation for repairing the things, I can only surmise that a competent mobile phone repairer, given the schematic and your Pluto could perhaps at least trace the issue, if not find replacement components and fix it.

Tagir, a Russian amateur in one of the `stans frequently appears on the satellite effecting remarkably dextrous mobile phone repairs in real time. He certainly has the RF knowledge and necessary equipment and skills to repair one, but what the situation is with trade embargoes and the movement of electronic goods to and from Russia at the moment is unknown to me, (should Tagir even wish to involve himself, of course).

There will be lots of others with the skill, knowledge and gear to fix one, but short of ringing lots of folk who specialise in similar micro surgery repairs of RF devices, finding one might be tricky.

Then there's the cost issue. I am sure the people who could do this would put a "hassle factor" premium on reading up on the things and delving into the schematic. It may cost as much or more to analyse and fix it than to buy another...

Good luck!
Best regards,

Chris, 2E0ILY in rural Shropshire.

I suspect the cost to repair would far exceed the cost of buying a new one.

They are only $232 US and repair technicians are likely to charge at the minimum $50 an hour usually a lot more, so it would not take long for it to be not worthwhile. Your choice is really buy a new one if you or a mate can't fix it.

It might be the USB supply that has failed, this happens quite bit with EMC problems. This is extremely hard to fix but you can bypass it and apply 5V directly elsewhere. I have done that once, on a model B. The schematics are on the AD website, but it is a complicated circuit and If you don't understand it and especially the implications of feeding 5V in somewhere, it is probably best not to try. Even if already a write off so seemingly not a lot to lose, there is a risk you could destroy your PC USB port, so proceed with care.

The schematic https://wiki.analog.com/_media/universi ... c_revb.pdf - page 7. For a model B, 5V can be applied at C157 but this bypassing the current limiting and probably best to remove Q3.
