Is off air lip sync possible?

Post by Basil » Sun Apr 02, 2023 11:19 am

Is there a way to set lip sync on a video to be transmitted without actually going on air to do so? If so, how please?

Also why might two downloaeded videos from the same source that show on say YouTube as perfectly in sync be wildly different when transmitted? Thanks.

Stream to VLC instead of the Pluto or Portsdown? Not sure if this completely works but it is a good way of checking your signal.

another way is to use a MMDS downconverter and take the RF signal from Pluto or lime without triggering the HPA. The RF for Q100 will be converted to UHF which can be received with minitiouner channel B on the corresponding UHF frequency.

Thanks for the replies. Lip sync set using VLC did not seem to hold good once the same setting was transmitted through the actual Pluto, but it will be another useful tool for checking signal paths, thanks Mike.

I will try Reinhard's idea next, thanks for that!

this MMDS converter might do it if you remove the input filter https://www.ebay.de/itm/152128782574
I am using it for all purpose testing as it works like Q100 as long as you control the input power and don't overdrive the MMDS input.

Why not just tune your Minitiouner to 2.4 GHz?

Indeed, it already covers 2.4 GHz. No need for a converter.

To be honest for £8 I fancied having a play with one, never seen one before.

I was not aware that the minitiouner can be tuned to 2,4GHz. However my R&S testgear needs UHF input, so the MMDS is doing a good job for monitoring and measuring the RF output of Lime & Pluto for Q100.
