LinkPi HDMI Encoders for DATV?

Post by G8GKQ » Wed Nov 16, 2022 7:59 pm

Hi

The Elgato HDMI input to the Portsdown (although useable at a home station) is not proving reliable enough for repeater use, and we are looking at other options to recommend.

Does anyone have experience of how to configure the LinkPi HDMI encoders for use with a LimeSDR or Pluto?

If so:
  • What version of LinkPi?
  • Any special firmware?
  • What Pluto firmware?
  • Can a Raspberry Pi be used to interface it to a LimeSDR?
  • 720 or 1080 definition?
  • Does it cope with HDMI input device changes?
  • Does it appear reliable enough for repeater use?
Thanks

Dave, G8GKQ

Hi Dave...

I am using 2 Link-pi streamer boxes. 1 at home for the PA3FBX stream and 1 at Pi6MEP.

Both have worked nearly flawless over the last year.
Both capable in producing 2 different streams to multiple Adresse...

So at Pi6mep it produces a 1 Mb stream to twitch and a 1 Mbit to the BATC and a 500Ks H265 to a pluto for 2344Mhz.

At home its only doing the 2 streams to internet.
You are welcome to come online to have a view. dave..
Although i do not have a lime...

Hi Dave

We've been using TBS2603SE (which is half a linkpi) to send SRT over the internet to our pico cell repeater for about 12 months
Raspberry Pi is the SRT reciever, You can use RTMP or UDP but SRT is stuning over an unreliable internet
The input light from a settop boxes activates the linkpi power, it wakes up and starts sending the output
It's quite reliable and once you've figured out the settings, easy to use, we are incorperating the linkpi to our new repeater

Try this link:https://github.com/matiaspl/LinkPi-ENCx to find out more, but they work out of the box, there are a few idiosyncrasies
The ENC1-V2 has all the connections on one side, so would be better for a repeater, buy from Aliexpress for best price
Linkpi would have alsorts of possibilities for inputs and outputs, quads/overlays/watermark, they are a fairly mature product now
We didn't have much luck with H265, we use H264 1080, but a smart cookie like you will figure it out

Get one and have a play

Blackmagic have just reduced the list price of the ATEM Mini Pro to £285 + VAT. I've seen it at some outlets selling it at under £300 inc VAT and postage, but CVP have their Black Friday event tomorrow and they will price match.

As the ATEM has a Web Cam output as well as HDMI and RTMP Stream if this can work with the Portsdown you have everything you need for a repeater including the streamer box, just add Ryde and Media Player.

The rub? Output can be 1080 line only (I use 1080p/25 on GB3JV), but you can always down-convert to 720p. Inputs can be 720p or above.

Justin.
