You can modulate DATV on 10 GHz using just an Adalm Pluto

Hello,

If you have an Adalm Pluto, you can use DATVexpress transmitter to send DVB-S or DVB-S2 at frequency 3457 MHz.
As the signal is not filtered, you have a beautiful Harmonic 3 on 10371 MHz that is usable.

I just hold by hand my Avenger LNB at about 1 meter and receive the video with Minitioune on 621 MHz.

yes it is just a test, if we want to use this solution for DATV on 10 GHz, we need a High pass filter and good amplifier. But it is funny to try.

Hi this is my first post so please excuse!
I noticed 3ELI and others were interested in Adalm Pluto and short supply.
Mouser seem to be saying they have 610 IN STOCK
Apologies if off beam

Hello Pierre

I have tried a Harmonic 3 on 10225MHz using just an PlutoSDR as you say.
I made a summary report at the 2018 All Japan Microwave Meeting that was held in November 18 in Tokyo.

My PowerPoint and presentation are as follows.

This is my poster session.

The first picture; The PlutoSDR is working on 3.4GHz with GNU Radio on Ubuntu. At same time the PlutoSDR is sending three times frequency, 10.2GHz form a Feed Horn, sending a RB-DATV, SR 1400S/s, DVB-S2, 8PSK.
The second picture; A Horn is receiving 10.2GHz signal, next a LNB and a MiniTioune USB receiver on Windows 10. We can see the RB-DATV fine, MER 23dB.
The Harmonic three 10.2GHz signal was about -30dBm compared with on 3.4GHz signal.

Your MiniTioune works very well, many thanks, de JA1SYK Hiro in Japan.

Hello Jean-Pierre and Hiro,

thanks very much for highlighting this very useful technique - but you don't even need a Pluto. In my shack I have connected either a DTX1 or Portsdown with a 1133MHz, 1MS/s output to a non-linear amp (dBm output range) and created 5665MHz (5th harmonic) which was perfectly receivable via my 6cm transverter into the Minitiouner Rx. The 'test range' consisted of a horn for transmit and PCB yagi for receive, about 6m apart, to give a MER of 12dB or better. If you look at the spectrum across several harmonics, the odd harmonics appear to be a faithful copy of the fundamental frequency, albeit with possible phase ambiguity, whereas the even harmonics appear to be unusable. More experimentation needed, but this technique could well be used up into the higher microwave frequencies, who knows !?

Please can you post a larger picture of the GNU flow chart for the Pluto DATV? The slide in your presentation is too small to read.

Hi Barry,

Did you look at the examples? e.g.

There are lots of them in the examples directory under dvb

Hello Barry and Mike

This is my GNU flow chart for the Pluto,

And the grc file,

This is a fundamental and a Harmonic 3 frequency,

And on my desk, a Tx-10GHz-Horn with a Pluto and a Rx-10Ghz-LNB + a MiniTioune.
