The DVB-T protocol appears to be the second most popular digital protocol being used for ham DATV.

Just to get my arms around DVB-T protocol, I prepared an article on DVB-T for DATV for my local club (OCARC) newsletter this month. The article is called:

TechTalk86 - Overview of DVB-T Modulation for Digital-ATV

The article can be found on the OCARC web site at:

www.W6ZE.org/DATV/

This TechTalk article puts a lot of ham-radio related DATV info on DVB-T into one place. It describes the three modulation schemmes that can be selected for DVB-T: QPSK, 16-QAM, and 64-QAM. There is a section that discusses the amount of power amplifier de-rating that is required when using DVB-T. Finally, near the end, there is a "table of PROs and CONs" that compares DVB-T with DVB-S and also with ATSC.

I would like to thank Charles G4GUO for clearly explaining the workings of the inner FEC to me...an area that I had not previously grasped correctly or completely.
