Low cost 7" multi-input LCD, with RTD-2660 controller

Post by markaren1 » Tue Dec 26, 2017 11:39 pm

Hi All,

Recently purchased a few small LCDs with LED back-light for general use around the office.

Main features include contemporary design (narrow bezel), thin & light enclosure, LED backlight, as well as HDMI, CVBS and VGA inputs. Also suppled with an IR remote. Units are around US$40, from https://www.ebay.com/itm/272026363930 (unit is not touch screen, despite a small attempt to mislead).

Units specified for 12-24V DC in, but works fine at 5V (800mA). Only initial complaint was the internal beeper(!); this was removed to short order.

Then the fun started. LCD controller is an RTD-2660, with full datasheet available, as are various associated open-source projects, including programmers. It appears that the part is 8051 based and quite a few versions of firmware are available. There is also (if it hasn’t been done already) the opportunity to cook-you-own-monitor.

The latter has quite a few possibilities such as the addition of serial control (input selection, external control of AV switches), custom status displays, removal of auto-power down, custom splash screens (!) etc.

Anyone have any experience with this LCD controller before diving in ?

Merry Xmas from NZ
