Hello all,

TerASIC have released an interesting FPGA/CPU product.

It has lots of goodies including Cyclone V, with 40k logic elements (older DE0 was 25k), 800MHz Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with 1GB DDR3 SDRAM, and 1G eth PHY.

Package appears to have BSP and precompiled image for Linux.

Hope that doesn't count as SPAM, since I don't work for Terasic blah blah blah.

I am more than happy to see FPGA posts on here and it is definitely not spam.
I bought one of their previous Sockit kits but it has just sat on a shelf gathering dust.
I have moved to the Xilinx Zynq platform now and am busy learning all about AMBA.
Xilinx also supply Petalinux tools that allow you to build custom Linux installations
for the Zynq although it is aimed more at embedded systems.
I have a long term plan to use the Zynq/LMS6002D as a next gen DATV platform with
a proper implementation of Digital Pre Distortion (DPD) etc. At the moment I am trying
to figure out the top level system design (which AXI4 IP I should use). It looks as if the
simplest way to do it will be to use shared memory between the ARM cores and the PL fabric.
The reason I moved to Xilinx was simply that a lot of the IP that Altera charge for is
supplied free by Xilinx. I prefer Quartus II to Vivado however.
Xilinx are moving from their ISE design suite to Vivado and consequently a lot of the
documentation can be out of date. They have also made their Petalinux tool standalone
but not all the documentation has kept up.
