HD PVR USB2 & DATV Express

Post by G3GJA » Tue Dec 23, 2014 6:39 pm

I bought a Hauppauge HD PVR USB2 with a view to using it to produce some H264 coded video to use with DATV Express or Digilite, but I'm not getting anywhere.

Having got the DATV Express card working nicely with the PVR-150 cards producing good DVB-S signals on Tutioune I wanted to try using H264. I read that 32bit Ubuntu works better with USB than 64bit so I reinstalled the OS. I confirmed that everything still works OK with the PVR-150 and MPEG2 under 32bit. The PC is based around a Core i5 4430 / 8GB RAM. Tutioune is installed on a second i5 PC and uses the TT S-3200 card.

When I connect up the HD PVR USB2 (it's a 49xxx model) all seems to work in that the hardware is correctly detected according to the status bar at the bottom of the DATV Express app and the correct input (composite in my case) can be selected. However, the queue length is jumping all over the place with lots of null being inserted. Looking at the RF output on the analyser it seems to 'blip' momentarily and produce carrier only and then return to a normal display.

On Tutioune, I can get a good constellation but no video and the MER blips too, in sync with mod disappearing from the SA display. I've tried all sorts of different combinations of settings on both the Express board and Tutioune but nothing seems to work.

Any pointers would be most welcome!

Hi Clive,

I am afraid not even I have that working at the moment.
I am hampered by the fact I develop on a 64 bit machine
and currently I can't even get VLC to work with the HD unit.
