Ex broadcast MPEG2 encoders available

Post by g8gtz » Wed Oct 09, 2013 3:17 pm

The BATC has just been given some surplus broadcast and video equipment which we have cleared from a premises in the south of England.

It contains a number of ex broadcast MPEG-2 encoders and DVB-S modulators - these are mainly 1u high 19" rack units and are designed for comms rooms so are very noisy and get quite hot. They are not really suited to the home environment but would be ideal for a repeater site.

The encoders are mainly Harmonic / Divicom MV50 or MV100 and have composite video in and ASI out. There are a couple of Tandberg 5610 but these are SDI in only.

The modulators are Tandberg SM5600 (also 19" rack 1u high) with an IF output tuneable between 50 MHz and 180 MHz and will need an up converter to the band of your choice.

These units are available to repeater groups and members in return for a donation of your choosing to BATC club funds and are on a first come, first served basis. A couple of people have already expressed interest and so we have 5 encoders and 9 modulators left.

They are to be collected at your cost or can be delivered to CAT13. They will only be given to bona-fide BATC members and are NOT to resold back in to the commercial market (ie put on ebay!).

We will be bringing any remaining units plus some other bits and pieces (including some old Adherent transport stream analysers / playouts, Alteia receivers and TBCs ) to Finningley where they will be available to members who are there to collect.

Contact me via the forum if you wish to help empty my shed before CAT13 ;-)

Hi All,

Has anyone had any luck with the SM6610 - MV50 combo, Have the modulator working, and the two units talking on the TS line,
set 4mbits per second. Noel has given me some pointers on the SM6610, and is fairly easy to set up.
Menu only shows DVB without the -S and cannot change on front or via rs232, but good Rx lock and MER, so probibly ok?

MV50
I have the video input green led blinking on back of MV50, with various large camera light level inputs.
Have set up pids, 625 pal etc, but loads of stuff totaly black arts Iv'e had a prod at, just need to get that video to modulator!
A pdf or paper copy of MV50 manual could be a good start, if anyone has found that hidden file on google thats evading me.
