UT-100 series DVB-T TX, RX, RTX USB dongles
Hi All.
I thought I would start a new post to follow on from http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3158, not being the first to try these great little devices.
I have recently received a UT-100C (US$160) and UT-100D (US$80) (http://www.hides.com.tw/index_eng.html) and downloaded V2.2 software from https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing
Using the rabbit-ear antenna that comes with it, I managed to get the ut100c going, streaming a video (converted with CyberLink MediaEspresso), using TSplayer. I used the Australian standard modulation settings and worked within the 70 cm band.
In Australia, there is a 7 MHz channel on 70cm and four on 23cm (WIA band plan). As such it is possible to receive with many TVs and set top boxes. I have yet to try the narrow-band DBV-T, although it seems to work ok, being the subject of the earlier topic.
I was able to receive with a conventional USB TV dongle, a Terratec Cynergy Stick+, that I had been using as a software defined receiver (SDR). The distance between them was only about 5 m, but I haven't tried any further. It also works on a conventional Panasonic TV, even comes up on the guide.
I had trouble getting my web-cam to stream via PC2TV. I use the same modulation settings as for TSplayer, but was getting "Transmitter init failed". Tried some of the settings I found on the web (my German is not good) and eventually got it going for video only. Reducing the bit rate, under the encoder tab of configuration, is the key. 2000 was suggested and worked but was jerky and significantly delayed. Reducing it to 200 or even 100 variable bit-rate gives a smooth picture and a fraction of a second delay; close enough. Video quality still seemed ok. I am only using a Logitech webcam, so I don't expect studio quality.
I can't get audio to work with PC2TV, but I think others are having the same problem.
The desktop view of PC2TV gave me some problems initially, but I obtained a driver for it from Hides and it works ok now. .
I am building a 5 W amplifier from http://www.minikits.com.au/ to get beyond my 1 mW. I am told the 5 W rating is for narrow-band FM. With wide-band D-ATV, the output is only 500 mW, still a significant improvement.
I have recently returned to amateur radio after a 40 year absence. I ran a 2 m simplex station with a converted taxi valve radio while at high school. I am in the process of putting a new station together, tower, antenna etc. So I have yet to try DVB-T other than in the lounge using the supplied rabbit's ears antenna.
The dongles from Hides are use devices and software from http://www.ite.com.tw/EN/products_more. ... 2&ID=4,152
The UT100 series DTV-T dongles are remarkable in what the can do, at a very affordable price. Just add power amplifier(s) and antenna (and a bit of patience)!

Re: UT-100 series DVB-T TX, RX, RTX USB dongles
Hi,
when the mail shot promoting the dongles from OpenCaster arrived, the bit that I found exciting was the chance to run narrow mode DVB-T rates well below conventional rates:
2/3/4/5/6/7/8 MHz
The fact that the equipment works across such a wide range of frequencies VHF to L band, makes some interesting possibilities for DVB-T in 70 cm (and below if we ever get any more spectrum extensions in VHF).
A support community (more related to use with OpenCaster) has sprung up here:

Re: UT-100 series DVB-T TX, RX, RTX USB dongles
Hi All
Still playing with the UT-100C. I put it on an i5 laptop and showed it to a few of the members of the Gold Coast Amateur Radio Society yesterday. I few were bemused that it would send and receive simultaneously at 7 MHz bandwidth on 70 cm with rabbit ears for the transmitter and no receive antenna, ~ 500mm from the xmit antenna.
Speed is a problem. I am trying to understand more about video cameras and seeing if I can find one that does encoding onboard.
I came across a very good book on DVB, written for those who understand electronics and radio, but not expert in DVB: Hervé Benoit 2010 Digital television : satellite, cable, terrestrial, iptv, mobile tv in the dvb framework/ – 3rd ed. ISBN 978-0-240-52081-0. It helped a lot in understanding the different parameters I was adjusting in the xmitter.

Re: UT-100 series DVB-T TX, RX, RTX USB dongles
Hi All
Just an update on my activities with the UT-100C TX dongle.
I am able to tx video files up to full hd at full frame rates.
Still having trouble getting live tx of cameras at full frame rate.
I have used crazyscan2 to get band scans and constellation diagrams using a low cost DVB-T PCI-E card.
There is a complete set of new software for the UT100C at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dvshv74hvjkau3a/uifV9Ve95l. Includes Windows 8 driver.
Details and screen shots are on my blog: http://vk4zxi.blogspot.com.au/

Re: UT-100 series DVB-T TX, RX, RTX USB dongles
I received my UT-100B Friday. It took awhile but I was finally able to see the scanning feature of BDA Viewer. After shutting everything down, I am unable to get BDA Viewer to stay on line. This is happening on two computers, a Windows 7 64 bit and a XP Laptop.
BDA Viewer loads, and I am able to get to the next screen only briefly if I am quick enough. The program shuts down then re-boots itself. This takes about 30-60 seconds. I am able to see my carrier on a HP spectrum Analyzer, but have been unable to capture any video.
I have removed and reinstalled the software a few times (6) or so with the same results.
I turn 75 next week so be gentle with me, my fingers type slowly, and memory access time has increase to the speed of my DOS 2 5 Meg Hard Drive.
Thanks
Jim

Happy (belated) birthday and hopefully you have your resolved the problem you were having by now.
I also had difficulty with the UT-100B I received recently. I finally found the problem. A wrong driver was installed for the IT9507 device. The first time I plugged the UT-100 into the pc's usb slot a driver was loaded automatically. I could only see the transmitter was producing power out on the spectrum analyzer and I was unable to receive my friend's picture he was transmitting. I had removed all installed files and reloaded/installed them so the only thing left (figures) was to a look at that driver again. The other day I checked the Device Manager and it showed the IT9507 driver just like the "QIG" (Quick Installation Guide) stated. I had skimmed over the section "Driver Installation on Windows 7" since I am running XP and now realize the heading should be for all Windows platforms and to browse for and install the correct driver type for the system. I used the "Update Driver" procedure that is found in the properties of the device "IT9507 TX Device" (under Sound, video and game controllers in the Device Manager). I noticed the date of the installed driver was older than the one it updated to. It now has ver. 13.12.18.1 (12/18/2013) installed that I found in C:\UT-100 CD v2.3_20140117_withDEC\Driver_Windows\win32bit that was copied to the hard drive.
The wrong installed driver was causing both the receiver and transmitter to malfunction. Now the BDAViewer+ and TSPlayer is working but still no luck with TSCapture, PC2TV or Media2Ts. They did indicate in the docs that XP may be a problem but didn't elaborate on what programs or features are maybe flaky or inoperable.
