Thanks Charles.

Is there enough headroom to fit a leaded HC49/S (low profile) or does it have to be the SMD version?

I found some French articles about this LNB and its Avenger variant, which looks different inside. The first article also has some info and measurements on the SUP-2400 converter.

According to the second article, they've been injecting an LO in place of the crystal and the limits for low band (nominal 9.75GHz LO) are 25.50 to 28.00MHz, which fits in with your 25MHz crystal not locking. The high band limits (nominal 10.60GHz LO) are 23.80 to 27.83MHz.

They've been using this 40MHz synthesiser for the LO injection - £3.30 including delivery from China! It needs a PIC or such like to drive it. There's a 70MHz version available for £13.

I'm going to use a SUP-2400 for 10GHz ATV, but I'll try fitting a 27.5MHz crystal to the other channel to make the narrowband section at 10.368GHz come out at 437.5MHz.

I am not sure about the crystal. The one I put in looks like the SM version of that package.
As I said before be very careful if you remove the crystal as the track lifts very easily.

There are some very useful bits coming from China these days at prices well below what you
can buy the actual parts for.

Crystal removal is probably a 3 man job to be safe.

The PLL LNB plus SUP-2400 combination worked well on FM ATV. I received G3SMU from Winter Hill, Bolton at Bidston Hill Lighthouse, Birkenhead using a small Sky dish. Not great DX at 27 miles line of sight with 1W to a de-focussed dish, but at least it proves that the approach works.

The SUP-2400 was converted using the EI9FHB mods, as I didn't think a loss of gain would matter.

For a worst case receiver that only allows a universal LNB (9.750/10.600GHz LO) with an automatic LOW/HIGH band change at 11.700GHz and to keep the LNB output frequency as high as possible, 10.000-10.200GHz is tuned by entering 12.400-12.600GHz and 10.201-10.500GHz is tuned by entering 11.699-11.400GHz.

Now to try changing one of the 27MHz crystals to 27.5MHz to bring 10.368GHz out on 437.5MHz.

Thats good to hear they work ok,

Do you have any comments on sensitivity at the lower frequencies like 10.065?
most LNB's are very deaf down there but ok at 10.3Ghz up over.

This is my first experience of 10GHz and I don't have any test gear unfortunately.

I tried the 27.5MHz crystal mod at the weekend and the GB3XGH beacon (Rochdale 10368.810MHz) was received on a 60cm dish over a 66km obstructed path at S8 on 438.255MHz on an FT817.

The only source of 27.5MHz crystals I could find was Ebay:

I have a few crystals spare if anybody would like one.

We found another LNB...

This is a LNB from Inverto Digital Labs, typenumber IDLB-SINL42-EXTND-OPP.
It's a single LNB with 25MHz as reference. This could be changed to 23.077MHz for 9GHz LO. Insiders told me that this should work.

Only 5 euros in Holland!

The Inverto web site doesn't specify which have PLLs. Perhaps they all have.

Do you know if there are any 10GHz tests online?
