Updated article on Panel Antennas for 1.2 GHz

Post by KenW6HHC » Fri Jul 20, 2012 5:41 pm

I became intrigued in panel antennas by a posting by Keith GØKTD in the BATC DigiLite Forum on a “lantern” antenna built using four panel antennas. I published a TechTalk article on panel antennas for my local radio club in April. I then received good feedback on the article from Kent Britain WA5VJB and Paul Melbourne G8GML.

Kent WA5VJB pointed out the impact of insulation on the velocity factor of wire, and cautioned about “beam tilt”. Paul G8GML elaborated on his early involvement in the “panel” antenna design and provided other details including providing me with photos of the large panel antenna constructed by HA5IW.

This new information has been incorporated into a revised/updated article on the OCARC web site. The article is called

TechTalk99 - DATV – a High-gain “Panel” Antenna for 1.2 GHz

This revised article can be found in the OCARC DATV library at:

Please let me know if anyone has additional questions or comments on panel antennas.
