Hi Dave, I have read information on the Knucker https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Knucker and it seems like an optimal project for the reception of the DvbT for the 6mt and 4mt band but for higher frequencies such as 2mt and 70cm it is able to work?
In addition, to receive the 23cm and 13cm in particular it is necessary to use a downconverter to adapt the If frequency to the range accepted by the Knucker .... am I right or am I wrong?
The ability to receive the DvbT with the Portsdown 4 is a nice possibility but it would take some hardware adaptations for now .... I was hoping there was a suftware capable of using the hardware of the Minitioune to receive the DvbT ... and yes I know , I'm dreaming !

The Knucker covers the normal terrestrial TV bands plus a bit more, so yes 6m-70cm but no to 23cm and above without a down converter. However the utility of DVB-T on 23cm and above is questionable.

The main advantage of DVB-T over DVB-S is in the multipath resilience of OFDM. As you move up in frequency, the bandwidth of the signal relative to the RF frequency decreases. Multipath nulls become wider relative to the signal bandwidth. Knucker is aimed at narrow band DVB-T, not wide band, so by the time you get to 13cm there won't be a lot of advantage.

Meanwhile, DVB-S amplifiers are usually a lot more efficient than DVB-T amplifiers, so with a given PA you don't have as strong a signal in DVB-T. Hence in practice the lack of DVB-T capability above 70cm isn't very important. Better to use DVB-S. You can always add a down converter if you insist on challenging physics.

Similarly, DVB-T over QO100 is pointless, there is no multipath. We have tried it successfully but more for testing than actual use. Where the large advantage is expected is on HF, 10m, 6m. Sporadic E. For 10m you need an up-converter and there band might be rather busy, but worth a shot as the solar activity increases.

Thanks Mike for your sudden reply, you have clarified my ideas a lot, unfortunately on the web you can read about everything and a lot of inaccurate opinions!
You are undoubtedly right about the frequency range useful for a DvbT transmission, I'm sure I want to experiment this mode mainly on 70Mhz, I just have to evaluate the physical effort if it is compatible with my available time.

And about datv-easy and receiving,
There has been some miss understanding started when Dominique made screenshots available about the reception of dvb-t.
He is using Gnuradio for reception and talked about some putting simple package together for the non computer specialist to receive DVB-T via a software solution. Very much similar than the soft DVB-S version witch is spoken about on the Amsat DL forum for years now..

It works and with some patience it works great, but one may ask why so may minitiouners have been build if it works stable.
You first need a decent CPU and memory and than someone who puts the right script together..
Decent CPU and memory will already exclude the raspberry for its simply to slow..

Still its a pity the hardware of minitiouner and knucker are not combined as we all would like to save some shack space. ..

Dominique is going really fast with updates and upgrades.
Today i got version 1.24 with has again upgrades.
Time for an overdue update:

V1.21 is working on a normal pluto with AD firmware.
V1.22 and a has some minor bug fixes and audio delay 1-+1000ms upgrade.
V1.23 increased symbol rate from 20ks to 2000.
V1.24 audio delay setting -2000 up to + 2000ms and it will work with F5OEO firmware when pluto is connected to USB.
(the power and PTT buttons will work in the f5oeo browser but freq transport settings are taken over)


Still the IP issue is not solved yet but by the rate Dominique is working on it i have high expectations.

Hello,
Thank you Benno for all the tests and the time spent to help DATV-EASY work properly.
Version 1.24 is currently being tested by around ten OM in Europe.
Fot the moment three of them tested positively on Ethernet and usb but there remains a small problem when several Pluto are connected simultaneously.
Even if there are still a few points to correct, I will make the files available to everyone next week with the manual.
All modes work DVBS DVBS2 and DVBT from 20kS to 2MS with Limesdr mini and Adalm Pluto
