Sounds like you have been busy too!
Glad your kernel compiled ok, i think i have compiled mine ok, it fails at generating the compressed version but the uncompressed Image file is created.. not tried it.

Got my scripts in and it appears to work generating a TS across the shack via udp link from the MK808 to digilite software :-)
CPU is around 50% though on each core with the opencaster tools with the odd glitch in data flow now and again just like it used to!

Ready to test your TS to encoded stream code Charles... wonder if cpu is up to the job?!

Just an update for those still following the thread...

Have had an MK808 pc running the Opencaster scripts and Charles' dvbsencode software into a digilite running in real time at 4Ms 1/2.
CPU usage 65-70% on each core.

More tests to follow.

Hi Rob, that is amazing!

I am sure we can get the CPU load down a lot.
The neat thing about these little sticks is they are
minute, cheap and a complete working DATV setup
can be distributed on a small SD card, no setup involved.
Just plug in all the connectors and turn the power on.

I think this will be the way to go with DATV-Express it
will certainly make software support easier.

For hardware I/O or WDT just add a USB to serial adapter.

I can even imagine a load of this modules inside a
screened box talking to one another using peer to
peer WiFi.

Hello Noel,

Basically what Rob has done with a little bit of S/W from me is to implement
the P.C part of Digilite on a cheap Chinese ARM based stick computer. These
things are the size of a USB memory stick. If you do a search on MK808 you will
find hundreds of hits for this little £30 computer.

Yes - that's pretty interesting.

What video capture device does it use - a cheap USB device?

And presume it can drive digilite or DATV express I&Q modulator / upconverter?

Sadly that would be too good. He is using a PVR-USB2 to get the video stream.
However the idea should work on just about any ARM platform that runs Linux.
Some of them do have hardware encoder (albeit H.264) GPUs.

The biggest problem is getting raw video into the device, it would overwhelm
the USB2. There are very few boards that can actually consume composite or
component video. Most are designed to work with little CCD cameras plugged into them.

Hi Charles /Rob
Great work loved seeing the results last night.
Just had a thought from the last post.
Have you seen on ebay the devices claiming to be mk808 built into a web camera? Hmmmm?
Could this do away with a capture device I wonder?
Over to you techie types

Cheers
Terry

Webcam with built in mk808 is interesting!

Some of the less cheap webcams aparrently have H264 stream output as well as raw video but have not tried one yet, that might make it possible.
The problem is that most of us want to input our own video source and not always from camera... it is a neat solution though.

Got a link Terry?!

Hello Terry,

No I haven't. I will have to investigate those.

I finally managed to compile a Linux Kernel for my Raspberry PI that supports
the DVBSky S960 DVB-S/S2 receiver. It should make quite a nice DATV receiver
setup. I have even spent the princely sum of £2.40 and bought myself an MPEG2
hardware decoder licence for the PI. Too many things to do and too little time.
