Once the PCB is available, I'll probably order another set. Shaun.

Hi All

I can imagine there will be quite a demand for these USB systems able to do both NB and WB DVB S and S2. Its likely to allow DATV to escape from the enthusiast category and move into the mainstream.

What is the idea here once the PCB design is finished? Is Brian having a batch made himself and asking for indications of interest, or perhaps circulating the gerbers or is it going through BATC? Any plans for a kit?

The manufactured PCBs should appear in the shop one way or another. I'll make the artwork available as PDFs, but it wouldn't be easy to homebrew because of the substantial amount of tracking on the lower surface and the number of vias, rather than just a few links.

I've tried to use through hole components where possible. Only the 1v regulator and some ceramic caps are SMD. This makes it a lot easier to produce a kit and I would consider doing that myself if necessary.

On the functionality, the two main considerations for a 'do it all' device are software and the power supplies. I don't know if Jean-Pierre has looked at software for DVB-S2 or 8PSK, or intends to. DVB-S2 is a proprietary system, so I don't know how popular that will become for DATV.

The power supplies may need more heatsinking for higher symbol rates and other modulation methods and the exact amount may be unknown until the software is written. It's certainly useful for testing to be able to use broadcast signals. I suppose the best approach is to make it do what we need at the moment (DVB-S up 4000kS) and allow some leeway for higher current without going over the top.

Yes - the intention is to stock the blank PCB in the shop along with the tuner and USB module and any other hard to get parts that the design uses.

Hi there,
I will take one of the USB units and the tuner

Also if a PCB becomes available I will take one of those as well. In fact if a full kit becomes available I'll have one.

Thanks
Terry

Thanks all contributors to this project; my upside down Veroboard version works great. Most of the wiring is underneath out of sight.

Please put me down for a PCB as I'll want to build a second tuner.

Does anyone know how you get the software other than by logging in to the VivaDATV site.

I've tried to reactivate an old login to which I have forgotten the password and I have also tried to re-register after waiting 3 days. However nothing ever seems to get me an email from the site, and yes I have checked my spam and junk email boxes.

The development team were all at Friedrichshafen - perhaps that's why?

Hello Ian,

I just pulled one of those modules out of an old project and it too has those pins bridged.
So I expect it is normal.
