Charles

I had a chat with Peter VK3BFG and he has had the same problem as me in that the video could only be captured via the s-video input on the Hauppage 150 card.

By the way I am also having a problem whereby if I hit a key or try to run a video on my quad core computer the signal drops out entirely. Have other users experienced this?

cheers Peter

Hello Peter,

1) Yes there is a bug in the software associated with using a PVR150 and the composite input. The next upgrade will fix that.

2) Ken saw a similar problem but in his case going to a faster PC fixed it (he was using a very slow machine). I use a quad core
machine and have not seen that problem. I am hoping the next version of the software will help with that problem when running DVB-S
as the next version will move all the DVB-S encoding into the FPGA so the Linux host will be doing very little.

I will let you know Peter probably end of next week sometime.
I have made a significant changes to the internal workings of the software and it
all has to be re-tested to make sure I have not introduced anything 'new'.

Thanks Charles

Could I please make one small suggestion for a software improvement which could save a lot of DATVers a lot of time and expense?

As you know there is a requirement to display one's callsign every 10 minutes for regulation purposes. Many atvers use pic based or arduino based on screen display circuits to display their callsign. However this can introduce some corruption of the image quality.

Seeing as you have the image in software already, would it be possible to include a callsign display option so that users can see their callsign come up on screen every 10 minutes in the top right hand corner? The callsign could be set in the settings area of the software. I think users would find this useful and means that don't have to buy or build an additional board.

Regards

Hello Peter,

I am afraid I can't do that as I don't have the image in memory.

Hi Peter VK3PB,

The DATV-Express project team has just released a software update called v2.02 up on the DATV-Express web site.

This v2.02 software update should fix the composite video problem that you encountered with PVR-150 boards. There was a single line of code that was wrong. It just took a long time to find it…since G4GUO could unknowingly-work-around-the-problem under certain conditions on his PVR-150 board.

The DOWNLOADS section of the http://www.DATV-Express.com web site now has the following updated files...
* README file
* User Guide (draft35) where Fig23 (PIDs Tab) and FIG26 (HW Tab) have been updated
* Debian install file for v2.02 i386 (32-bit Intel)
* Debian install file for v2.02 AMD 64-bit

Let us know if this corrects your PVR-150 problem?

73…de Ken W6HHC
