DATV on Linux stick computers

Post by G4GUO » Tue Feb 19, 2013 9:17 am

This is all looking very feasible. At the moment you need to be a bit of a computer
techie to get it to work. The version of Linux we have been using is a pre-alpha
release and not all the bits work. However the Linux community are actively improving
Picuntu and it should become easier to use and install in the future.

Having looked into the crystal ball (Googled the Internet), in the next year there should
be a lot more of these devices becoming available. There are already Quad core units
available, the Hi802 and Zealz GK802, there are a number of tablet versions either
released on in the process of being released.

The Hi802/GK802 are interesting devices as unlike the MK808, the CPU in them is made
by Freescale and Freescale being a member of Linaro.org officially support Linux on the
chips and have made most of the documentation freely available. This makes it easier
for people to use the custom specific parts of the chips.

So there will be a lot of cheap gadgets to hack!
