PUTTY SETTINGS

Post by G4IMO-TV » Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:17 am

Hopefully there is a Putty expert on here who can help. Not being very computer literate I'm struggling.
I'm trying to expand the frequency range of the Adalm Pluto so I can use it on the Portsdown 4.
I installed Putty on my Laptop running Windows 7. Then Plugged the Adalm Pluto into the Laptop Usb socket with the lead provided. I start up Putty and enter 192.168.2.1 The Laptop device manager identifies the Pluto is connected to COM4 so I enter 4 in the Port window. All I get is a new small black window with green cursor in the top left corner. I don't see the Pluto Welcome page asking for login or password.
What am I doing wrong?

Any help gratefully received

Not, not like that.

Enter 192.168.2.1 into the host name box, then select "Open"

username is root password analog

Not sure why you are using/needing PUTTY to do this. https://wiki.analog.com/university/tool ... s/firmware shows the Analog way but another way is to download the excellent satsagen software (https://www.albfer.com/en/2020/02/21/satsagen-2/) which, when you run it for the first time, will upgrade your Pluto for you.
Got a vague recollection that you may need Putty to upgrade to using the dual CPU's, think Satsagen would possibly do that too.
Good advice here too https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Portsdown_4_Pluto

Good luck.

Instructions on how to do frequency extension are in this post: viewtopic.php?f=103&t=7473

You'll need to download the F5OEO firmware if you want to use it with Portsdown - instructions are also on that post.

Update. - Successfully extended the Pluto range and enabled both cpu's. Thanks again for all your help. Next step in the journey is updating the firmware. My Pluto firmware is v0.32 and selecting Portsdown Menu M3,Pluto Config,Check Pluto Firmware, it tells me to update the firmware to v.0.31-4-g9ceb-dirty. Question Do I need to change to v0.31 before installing the F5OEO Firmware or just forget about it, as the F5OEO Firmware takes care of it???

Thanks
Nick

You need to just upgrade to F5OEO.

Don't load other versions (they won't work with P'down), just follow the instructions in my previous post.
