Re: New DATV Express owner
Charles,
When you load a configuration file, and then make some changes and click save, does it save back to the loaded configuration file or the generic file datvexpress.cfg? One small change that would be really helpful for those using it mostly for RB-DATV would be a configuration file line to disable sound. Is there on option to overlay a callsign on the video?
73 Shaun.

Re: New DATV Express owner
Hi Shaun,
Which version of the software are you using, the latest is v1.05?
It should save back into the loaded configuration file.
You can disable the sound from the audio codec menu (a bug means it won't save the change)
The Video Ident click box sends the SI Provide name as a text overlay.
I will be releasing an updated version of the S/W in the next few days which corrects a few
things and adds some features designed to improve portable operation.

Re: New DATV Express owner
Not a new Express owner but I am new to the Express DVB-S Transmitter software. I can make the Express board work with the DatvExpressServer software linked via a graph to a Hauppauge HD PVR and I get usable H264 on the MiniTiuone, so I know the Express drivers are OK etc.
However, when I start up the Express DVB-S Transmitter v1.08 I get the following error (left) followed by another after selecting cancel (right)
Running Windows 7 32bit and have selected 'Run as Administrator' in the compatibility settings of the Express DVB-S Transmitter shortcut icon. The datvexpress.cfg file exists and permissions are OK. If I ignore the errors the GUI loads and I can make some changes and save as test.cfg for instance. If I restart the program then I get a 'Cannot find test.cfg, trying datvexpress.cfg'.
Any help would be much appreciated. Clive G3GJA / G8EQZ

Re: New DATV Express owner
I would try re-installing it. I have no idea why you are getting those messages.
If that fails you will probably have to edit the Windows registry and delete the location of the
configuration file it is trying to load and then re-install.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->DATV-Express->ExpressCaptureServer
and (if it exists)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Local AppWizard Generated Application->ExpressCaptureServer
However the missing firmware message indicates there is something seriously wrong with your installation as that file is
in a fixed location and should always be found.
If you install the program in it's default location there is no need to use Administrator Privileges.
Hope that helps

Re: New DATV Express owner
No change Charles.
I ran the uninstaller, removed the registry entries and for good measure reinstalled the USB drivers with Zadig.
I then reinstalled using the default settings and as soon as it launched from the installer I got exactly the same errors.
Can you think of anything else I can try?
Thanks
Clive

Re: New DATV Express owner
The errors are indicating it can't find the files.
The most suspicious error is the missing firmware error as the position of that file is fixed
so it is not dependent on the registry.
Can you tell me where you have installed the files. They should be in
C:\DatvExpress\Express DVB-S Transmitter\
are they present?
You could try running it from the folder rather than using the short-cut

Re: New DATV Express owner
I've run the installer on another computer (Lyndon's), this time a Windows 10 64bit OS that has never been used for DATV before and again I got the can't find the config file error. A quick check with the DATV Server App caused the LEDs on the Express board to light up as expected.
I went back to the Win7 32bit machine and tried putting the full path of the config file in the registry key. Same error on starting but with the full path and then it went on to look for the same file without the path. On checking the registry entry it had overwritten my change back to datvexpress.cfg. I then added the full path of the DATV Express folder to the PATH in system variables; that didn't work either.
The folder created by the installer using all of the defaults on the Win7 32bit PC is shown below:
Lyndon (M0LDR, my son) also tried to debug it using the VSJIT debugger but we didn't get very far. We also tried running from the folder.
Can you think of anything else to try?

Re: New DATV Express owner
Hello Clive,
Someone else has reported this problem to me thankfully they had it working and then
changed something and it stopped. Now I know what the issue is.
If the video capture or audio capture device is invalid it will report the wrong error message.
I am working on a fix but it is quite complicated as I have to catch every combination of error
and correctly log it.
You should be able to work around the problem as follows.
Start the program, select a valid video / audio capture device then save the configuration file.
Close the program.
Restart the program and it should work.
I am sorry for your waste of time on this.

Re: New DATV Express owner
Not a waste of time Charles; that's the whole point of a beta.
I'm pleased to report that all is well now and I'm getting some excellent results with the C920 camera
