70 cms antennas for DATV

Post by G4GUO » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:24 am

Hello all,

I am not far off being QRV on 70 cms DATV.
All I am missing is a suitable antenna ( I don't
think a duaband colinear really counts ).

I am after something unobtrusive that
can withstand coastal winds and is
relatively wideband.

Anyone have any suggestions ?

Good afternoon, please remind that ATV / DATV is using Horizontal polarisation antennas for Dx (except sometimes for local transmissions in moutain area)
Personally, I am using 4 x 21 elts. Tonna antennas on 70 Cm. Center frquency is 436,5 MHZ covering from 433 to 440 MHZ.

Not related to antennas but related to 70 cms.
I have posted a short video on my blog
http://www.g4guo.blogspot.com/
of my DATV system. Judging by the amount
of work involved it will probably be the last video
I do. I think I will stick to still pictures in future !

I couldn't find anything just right for what I wanted
so in the end I decided to buy a load of antenna
hardware from sandpiper Aerials and make my own.
That way I can make it as rugged as I like and as many
elements as I like and tuned for the part of the band
I want. I found a suitable design in the ARRL Antenna
Handbook that I can modify.

Hi Andy,

I think all I have managed to do is to show that
the bitstream from a Hauppauge HD-PVR is
compatible with a regular HD ready TV that
has a DVB-T tuner. It was fun to do anyway.

I notice in the paper today that you can now
buy a 3D camcorder (Panasonic HDC-SDT750).
I don't think I will be trying that anytime soon.

Hi Charles..

If you put a subscription 3D channel on before sky does in the near future then it maybe worthwhile at £50+ a month per subscriber...hi

Good work!
