Have I erred ! Longmynd with a pico tuner?
Re: Have I erred ! Longmynd with a pico tuner?
Don't forget the picotuner also supports a Winterhill mode with firmware by Brian G4EWJ which works over a network.

Re: Have I erred ! Longmynd with a pico tuner?
Hi Mike
Does this not need an ethernet adaptor using the WIZnet W5100S-EVB-Pico or W5500-EVB-Pico module.
I was trying to work out if the Minituner V2 can be upgraded with this board or if it will only work on a Pico tuner dedicated PCB tuner
I have two mini tuners that I upgraded, one connected to the ryde and the other in my longmynd
It seems now I read the wikkis etc that there is zero advantage in these two set ups as the 2nd TS cannot be accessed in the Ryde and the v2/pico is not accessible by longmynd.
I do have a winter Hill which I will bring back on line me thinks

Re: Have I erred ! Longmynd with a pico tuner?
I am not sure a Minituner V2 converted to a Picotuner was intended as an "Upgrade". Replacing the FTDI module with a pico in an existing Minituner v2 was to allow people to re-use their existing hardware to make a picotuner. Saves buying a new tuner, saves building a new PCB. That's really a change to different receiver rather than an upgrade.
We moved to the Pico and developed the Picotuner largely because of the high cost of the FTDI module. The Pi Pico in the Picotuner allows two streams via one USB or ethernet port, another advantage, and we added the LNB supply option to the board. When you modify a Minituner with a pico it it no longer a Minitiouner, so that does break compatibility with software expecting a Minituner. As the Ryde/PD4 doesn't support two streams, in those cases you don't gain that capability.
You can modify a Minitiouner to Pico-ethernet with the SMD board Colin designed in the shop, but J1 will get in the way of the ethernet socket. It would probably be better to just wire it up rather than fit in place of the FTDI, after removing the FTDI module of course. There are not so many connections. It isn't going to help you where software does not support it. Brian's software does. Both streams.
However, as you have a Winterhill, it does raise a question as to why bother modifying your Minitiuners at all given you have another perfectly capable 4-channel tuner. Better to put it to one side in case you need to use it with JPs software. As Minituners, they will still work with the PD4 and Ryde.
I have replaced my Winterhill with a Picotuner with Ethernet as it doesn't need a PI4 running 24/7. It only supports two channels and doesn't have the ability to natively display them, that needs the PC app, but otherwise it is effectively a mini Winterhill sitting on the network.

Re: Have I erred ! Longmynd with a pico tuner?
Hi Mike
All understood
Bottom line though was its my hobby and I like building Stuff........
I mis interpreted the V2 to pico as an upgrade, and initially failed to read the compattability issues.
I still think the longmynd (V2 board with FTDI) plus pi should work with open tuner.
Maybe port (1234) is wrong need to look into that, but the shack is an oven tonight so maybe another day.
The picotuner I had not really looked at but as it also has a switched LNB supply like the WH I might put one together.
I could have a porable set up then

I try to understand this.G1BVI wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 6:37 amI think you are correct ColinThe pico conversion worked with Ryde but only with one stream as advertised but not in the longmynd.
Question for me now is do I revert to longmynd or remove pi and use opentuner hi hi
I
There is Longmynd support on open tuner too but as I recall that failed with the FTDI module
Nick
Are you using longmynd on a raspberry and the minitiouner (pico tiouner) is connected to the raspberry?
What control program are you using to control the longmynd? is that opentuner running longmynd client, or ryde?
I guess you need Longmynd to speak the right language to the pico tuner to get it to work. Afterall in Opentuner Tom uses also the Longmynd to talk to the pico tuner. And this goes the same for Ryde where tim made the longmynd talk to the pico.
Pico and minitiouner are using very similair but not the same command structure.. But i leave that beter to colin or brian to explain..

%$&^*! NIMS Have shot up in price Mike !!
Looks like there is zero stock of the PCB anyway.
Must be a popular project

Re: Have I erred ! Longmynd with a pico tuner?
Longmynd to me standard is a Rpi and mini tuner.
I use the longmynd client for this.
Removed FTDI and replaced with a pico expecting it to work with Open tuner from Tom.
I thought Tom said that would work.
I suspect its the port 1234 but need to get back when its cooer.
I need to read Toms site again, maybe its an upgraded rpi build?
