Hello all.
John G7ACD has kindly donated a 3U sub-chassis towards my next Portsdown build. See image. Ron M0RNW at our club suggested I have a go at mounting the individual PCB and modules on single Eurocards.

The wiring still looks like spaghetti despite my best efforts in recent builds so this is appealing.

The prototype PCB'S pictured on the above webpage that use 90 degree connectors to a back plane look interesting but they're £15 to £20 each !

Do any members have spare or unwanted single Eurocard and DIN 41612 connectors that I could have or buy please? I'll be at CAT24.

The sockets in that rack are designed to accept PCBs without connectors (preferably gold-plated at the edge) like the extender card on the right in the photo below. I do have a couple of gold-plated solder-in edge connectors that might be suitable (also pictured) and will bring them to CAT 24 for you.

At a push, you can file a "key" slot in a piece of veroboard and connect them that way.

My first job after graduating (1978) involved a truck full of electronics made of TTL stuffed cards in an awful lot of edge connectors. As you can imaging, bouncing this lot around a dusty desert meant that it rarely worked when you arrived, necessitating pulling the cards out, cleaning the connectors and plugging them all back in. A bit later we had an upgrade to CMOS TTL in wire-wrapped socket back planes. Not any better....
But good luck in your endeavours - front panel coming with me to CAT24 so that bit will work

Thanks for the edge connectors, Dave. Pictured is Ron M0RNW's solution - sell me a project box probably built for Eurocards for £20.
It's a Screen Service Italia DBT 200U + XBT 700 from 2007. Channel 25 503.25 MHz transmitter or it was . Large release of smoke after a <crack>! sound from the RF units on the right means it's a project box with maybe a 26 V psu. It's big enough for a Benno PA3FBX sized unit! It's going in the loft unless a broadcast TV enthusiast collects it for twenty quid from IO82WO.
