Noise figure meter

Post by M5AIQ » Mon Apr 15, 2024 10:42 am

Looking for a noise figure meter to measure some preamps. Usual suspects Eaton / Ailtech / HP. I thought I had the relevant option in my VNA to do this, but it seems that the software option is enabled when some pieces of hardware are in fact not present....

Sadly I don't have the hardware already for this - although I'm tempted to buy a Pluto SDR module. But I did wonder if anyone having acquired a nice small system like this would be trying to get rid of a boatanchor noise figure meter....

Hi Alan

I do have a Magnetic AB Model 117 Noise Figure Meter (1960s vintage) which you would be welcome to collect (from Salisbury or any of the BATC-attended Rallies in the South). Working when last powered up about a year ago. Sadly, I do not have any spare noise sources to go with it.

Not quite a boat anchor - only 12 kg!
