Deaf Winterhill

After working seamlessly for over 1 year, my Winterhill has gone deaf on both NIMs and all RX's. I really don't know where to look, I did ascertain the 18V was being sent to the LNB and the LNB seems fine on my SDR for SSB

Any suggestions how to trouble shoot this ?

Is there no sign of any signal whatsoever, or is the MER so low that no video can be displayed? It seems unlikely that both NIMs have failed at the same time.

Does the 4 line display show that receive commands are being accepted?

Do you use the WH to provide the voltage for NB, or is that a separate supply? Is there just one coax from the LNB?

Can you receive your local transmission? Put a short wire into the bottom F sockets and select the bottom sockets with whpcrxcom.

With the power off, take the power supply module jumpers off and on a few times. I've had one instance of a jumper not making good contact.

Measure the supply voltages and look for instability with a scope if possible.

Check the 3.3V supply but assuming that is OK, the obvious might be the answer.
Could you have accidentally transmitted RF into it?

Thanks for the suggestions, my own RF is 12 MER not 22 ! Normally.

I can’t see that I could have done that !It was working fine and I hadn’t TX a couple of days ago.

I Will check the voltages probably tomorrow, but to much demand for other things today.

Ok, took me today to get enough peace to look at the voltages.

The 1v and 3.1 V seem fine and stable, however the 5V seems all over the place from 5v down to 0 , however the fan plugged in to the main board seems to run, I think that's off 12v. The NIM's do their initialisation flashes, but I now think the Rpi is not running either, which it was before I messed with the jumpers and tested the Voltages. I thin it starts then stops as current on 5v increases. So I guess an issue with the 5V rail ?

Looks like it.

If you have an RPi USB-C supply, with the power off, remove the 5v jumper JP2 and connect the psu directly to the RPi. Switch both supplies back on at the same time.

Try resoldering all joints in the 5v supply area.

Thanks Brian, yes I have RPi PSu's , however not sure if I can get to this before next week. I will report back

I got some time, and using the external PSU seemed to make no difference. I connected an local monitor and I could see the log. Unfortunately I couldn't easily copy it . (Since the first errors I now cant see the RSpi in the Winterhill client).

The main errors are NIM a and B cant be initialised near the top and near the bottom Cannot write to Device 0xD0 0xF702 remote I/O error repeated for device 0x0742

If the NIM's are faulty, why do I not get any output now to the Remote software ?
