Power supply modules
Power supply modules
Fot those who need it:
The power modules are still hard to find, so I decided to make my own.
This module generates all 3 voltages, so only one module is needed.
(Basic SMD soldering skills are needed to assemble this pcb)
Further details can be found in the attachment s

Re: Power supply modules
Neat. Perhaps the BATC shop could stock the pcbs.

Re: Power supply modules
That's great. I was thinking of doing something similar. Mouser keep putting back the delivery dates. How are you getting 3 rails from one adjustable regulator?

Re: Power supply modules
Hi Mike,
The pcb has 3 regulators as you can see in the schematic diagram.
The diagram is in the attached zipfile.
The AP3418 regulators are real tiny, almost unbelievable that they "do" 1,5 amp max.
At the time of creating this design all components where available from Digi-Key, the situation may have changed meanwhile .
Another thing that helps with power problems in Winterhill, Portsdown and Ryde constructions (and all other RPi based designs)
is soldering a BIG capacitor >1000uF direct over the RPi's GPIO connector power pins 2,4 for +5V and 6 for Gnd)

Re: Power supply modules
There are some 3A ones available on eBay but not cheap

Re: Power supply modules
The AP3418 are really quite amazing devices for their size - but be aware I found to my cost they generate a lot of RF noise so careful filtering and layout is required otherwise you may find your sensitive VHF / UHF rx's aren't quite so sensitive anymore
Re: Power supply modules
PCB's arrived just waiting on component delivery for Rob,s PE1CHY Winterhill PSU.

Re: Power supply modules
Hi Brian, (and others)
A warning, please check availability of the components before ordering pcb's.
At the time of designing this pcb all components were in production.
Now (july2323) the AP3418 is still available but declared obsolete.

Rob,
Have enough parts for all PCB's, thanks for info

Re: Power supply modules
Same thing happened with the intended modules. Basically, don't procrastinate.
