whpcrxcom

Post by g6hfs » Mon Aug 08, 2022 10:45 am

Help please,

I have opened the ports as described in the user manual, and can remotely see the pi 4 and even login via ssh, but I have no connection with sending commands using whpcrxcom, it works ok on internal network but not when trying external connection, have I missed a setup some where?

Thanks

To summarise:

you're trying to access WH from outside your house
you've opened ports 9920-9924 for incoming UDP at the WH end
you've opened ports 9901, 9902, 9941-9944 for incoming UDP where you're located
WH is running in an ANY mode

Your port opening must be OK if you can ssh into the RPi. Do you know if the commands are reaching WH, but you're just not receiving the transport stream?

You can start WH from your location, which will stream the 4 line info display to you, so you can tell if commands are getting through.

ssh into the WH RPi4

Go to the WH runtime folder: cd ~/winterhill/RPi-3v20

Stop WH: sudo killall whlaunch*

Start WH in AnyHub mode: sudo ./winterhill-3v20 0 9900 0 0 0 0 0

You will see some extra text being output when a command comes in.

CTRL-C to stop

Hi Brian,

The manual is remote xx01-xx02 and xx41 - xx44 wh xx20 - xx24, should the xx be 99, my router only allows 1 instant of raspberry ip so I have to open xx01 to xx44, either way it does not work, also what does wh end ports open and remote end

Cheers

xx matches the base port that WH is started with, so it's 99 for the default software as installed. As mentioned, you could use a different base port for remote operation, but it's optional. The base port can be changed in the launch files in ~/winterhill/RPi-v320.

So for the default software using a base port of 9900, open 9920-9924 at the WH end and 9901-9944 at your end.

For whpcrxcom, the base port should be set to 9900 and the IP address is the router at the WH end - same as you use in ssh.

>>also what does wh end ports open and remote end

I don't understand the question.

Brian,

This is what is confusing me, So for the default software using a base port of 9900, open 9920-9924 at the WH end and 9901-9944 at your end.

what is the base port at wh end in the pi? or are they all in the router, ie where do I open 9920 - 9924, and where do I open 9901 - 9944, all in my router, sorry not very savvy with software.

Brian,

Success, just noticed the router defaults to tcp not using, thanks for all your help.

You're halfway there then.

The PC firewall may be interfering with the incoming TS data. If in doubt, go into the firewall app where it shows which applications have private and public access and delete all references to VLC. Reboot for good measure and tick both private and public boxes when the firewall intervenes the next time you run VLC.

Brian,

Still no luck, but one last question, what protocol should be used http or https or other? besides type as usual.
