Brian, may I please ask if you had any trouble sourcing any components at the moment? I want to populate a new Wiinterhill PCB shortly. Thanks and good luck with yours.

It's a nightmare getting parts at the moment. You might find the regulators hard to find, you can use a 3A OKR-T_3.0-W12-C version in place of the 1.5A OKR-T_1.5-W12-C version which is not available. The problem is the price has doubled and they are out of stock until August.

This is a lesson really, if there is an interesting project, get the parts when it comes out, don't put it off because if you do, you will probably find it hard to get the parts.

Pay attention, don't expect to be able to build a >5 year old project. Even without the current shortages, the life cycle of all but basic components has become relatively short. Same for the tuner modules, BATC had to make a last chance purchase in order to have stock, but these will eventually run out. We have seen it with the Lime SDR, it is likely to be the same for the Pluto. It happens all the time with RF power devices and modules as progress brings better devices and the older ones go out of production.

Basil,

Yes, had a couple of hard to find but managed in the end, used batc, farnell, rs, and ebay on ebay a couple where from china but only took 3 weeks so not to bad, the only part was the 1.5a and 3a psu boards, but found 3a on ebay so got 3 of that part which can be used also some smaller parts come in 10’s and may only need 1 or 2 like a d caps, resistors and diodes.

Good luck on hunting some of the parts down.

PS. Some bits where pricey.

Thanks for the replies, just ordered three off eBay, ouch as to the price... I stopped smoking at the start of Covid, so I guess that at £11 a packet saved I should be able to indulge in the odd overpriced components.

I'm cursing right now as having successfully used JTAG to get my Pluto alive again, so much prattling about with the micro USB port has left it intermittent. I have a pal at a big components company who went through all their myriad varieties of ports whilst holding a macro photo of mine, and bless him, found the correct ones. But gee, they are small and fiddly, I am not sure if I'm up to replacing it.

I need a good man who is used to repairing these on cell phones to do it really.

I thought something like male to female micro USB "port savers" might be a thing, but apparently not. Only longish male to female leads. Look after those ports!

Ouch - £13.99 = that's more than double - lots of scalping going on at the moment.

Very good. It's a struggle to get to the end these days, with the state of component availability.
