Hi Guys,
I have completed my Wintr Hill buuild and have just installed the OS on the Pi4. I seems to want to use the IP 169.254.199.53/16 when left to it's own devices!
I used the WiFi to connect to it with putty as I couldn't with it's DHCP address and installed the winter hill software.
My question is can I set a fixed ip that matches my network ie. 192.168.1.xxx? If so do I need the ipv6 disabled and what do I need to put into the DNS Server and search boxes?
all the best

Hi Seamus,

169.154 is an address that is used as a default when the network adapter cannot get an IP address from DHCP. I'm not sure if you want to use Ethernet and there was a problem, or if you want to use WiFi.

The RPi WiFi network adapter must have got an IP address from your router if you can Putty to it. Try turning off WiFi (and Bluetooth if you don't need it) on the RPi task bar and reboot with Ethernet connected and then use the icon on the RPi desktop to show the IP address.

If it still shows 169.154, there may be a problem with the Ethernet connection. Is there activity on the Ethernet LEDs on the RPi RJ45 socket?

I find that once a device gets an IP address from DHCP, it always gets the same one.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the reply. The WiFi did get an IP and worked fine for the installation.
I discovered that the switch port I was plugged into was faulty as the LEDs on the front weren't flashing so plugging into another port fixed the problem!
Now to get a mount made for my LNB on a dish I've had for years!
Thanks again
