WHviewer on second PC
WHviewer on second PC
Hi,
bit of a funny here related to VLC I suspect.
I have WH running nicely and viewing on a PC over my local network with no problems.
I decided to install it on a second PC on the same network and it installed ok, but when I run quick tune it shows the paramaters in the top banner of VLC ok and reports MER etc but no video is displayed.
Minitiouner runs ok and uses VLC, but for some reason WH is being difficult.
I've made sure it's not a firewall issue.
VLC also plays other network sources - just not WH.
Question - does WH care about 32 or 64 bit versions ? I have both on this 64 bit PC - just the same as the other PC which works fine.
Regards Tim

Re: WHviewer on second PC
Might be a codecs issue. Try turning off hardware decoding in VLC.

Hi Mike,
thanks for the quick response - tried turning off the HW decoder but no joy.
I suspect it's a conflict somewhere between 32 and 64 bit VLC versions - but a little puzzled as to why everything VLC related works fine apart from WH over the network.
Tried re-installing VLC (both 32 and 64 bit versions) but still no joy - will keep plugging away at it as its bound to be something I've got misconfigured somewhere.
FYI using the udp://@:9921 works fine on the other PC but nothing on this second PC despite WH status box showing it's sending the stream ok and VLC reporting MER etc across the top - just no video grrrrrr !

Re: WHviewer on second PC
The VLC type shouldn't matter.
Are you using multicast addresses?
To see if VLC is receiving anything, or just doesn't like it:
Right-click in the body of a VLC window which is showing the correct info in the title bar
Click TOOLS, CODEC INFORMATION
If you see entries for STREAM0 and STREAM1, VLC is receiving data.
Click STATISTICS at the top and you should see some counters increasing.
If that's all OK, it must be a display problem.
---------------
Can you view MT by activating the UDP output and using a separate VLC?
If so, try changing the separate VLC to udp://@:9941 etc, to try with WH. (rather than udp://@:9921 - 9921 is the command receive port for WH RX1)

Re: WHviewer on second PC
Hi Brian
VLC is not receiving any data from WH but VLC works fine with a UDP stream from MT
Ok so using udp://@:9941 with VLC works fine and when I initially set up this new PC I noticed WH status box was reporting 9941 rather than 9921 as set up in the quick tune.
Could it be aport mistmacth somewhere ?

>>VLC is not receiving any data from WH
If you restart WH on the Raspberry Pi and then restart whpcviewer on the second PC, do the VLC title bars show udp://@:9941 etc?
---------------------------------------
>>udp://@:9941 with VLC works fine
Works fine on the second PC, displaying video from WH? Does that apply if you use a separate VLC and also using a VLC started by whpcviewer?
---------------------------------------
whpcviewer looks in a few places to find VLC. In case it's picked up an old one:
On a VLC window started by whpcviewer, hit CTRL-H to bring up the menu bar.
Click HELP, ABOUT to see which version is running. 3.0.12 is the latest.
---------------------------------------
>>WH status box was reporting 9941
Which box is that? Can you do some screenshots please.
QT should be set up to send commands to ports 9921-9924. WH sends TS to ports 9941-9944.

Works fine on second PC starting VLC manually with or without pcviewer running VLC displays video from WH fine on 9941 beacon transmission.

Yes running 3.0.12 and the same 64 bit version as works ok on the other PC

All ok on that front QT set correctly and WH VLC status box reporting 9941 etc as it should.

Re: WHviewer on second PC
It seems like TS data is getting to the second PC, but not always to the 994x port that you want.
Close WH on the Raspberry Pi and close whpcviewer and any other VLC windows on the second PC.
On the second PC:
Run CMD as Adminstrator
netstat -an -p udp -b
This will give a list of listening UDP ports and their owners.
Check that 9941-9944 do not appear in the list and that VLC doesn't own any ports.
Start whpcviewer on the second PC
Do the netstat line again
netstat -an -p udp -b
You should see something like below. Ports 9941-9944 are listening and are owned by VLC. 9901-9902 are owned by whpcviewer for the info streams.

Re: WHviewer on second PC
Hi Brian,
thanks for your help - the output from netstat is exactly as you described.
I've uninstalled VLC both 32 and 64 bit and re-installed them - but no change ie MT and VLC works fine as does udp//:@9941 with VLC.
It's just that VLC within Winterhill doesn't seem to connect - even though I'm using the same batch file and application on both PC's.

Re: WHviewer on second PC
Another data point
if I use QT to tune the WH rx's VLC running by itself works on all 4 rx's no problem.
If I then start up PC viewer the VLC rx keeps working on say 9941 but if I then chnage VLLC to say 9942 VLC no longer works - seems as though PCviewer is blocking data to VLC.
This happens consistently once I start pcviewer it also happens on the other PC so maybe this is expected behavoir.
