CAT21 update

Post by g8gtz » Fri Jul 23, 2021 8:36 pm

The BATC committee has just finalised plans for CAT21 and we have decided to run 2 events!

CAT21 Part 1 - Saturday August 21st (only) - Coventry Air Museum

This will be a BATC members-only networking event held in the large hangar at the museum where activities will include:

* Test and Fix area including Portsdown and Ryde clinic

* Members "show and tell" area where you will be able to see what other members have been building during the last 2 years!

* Members bring and buy tables

* QO100 - It would be great if a member is prepared to set up and run a QO100 demo and uplink (set up can be done on Friday PM)

* BATC contest and awards ceremony at 12 noon

The hangar is a large open area with a high roof which we believe can be used to create a safe environment. To comply with the museum rules you will be required to wear a mask, unless you are exempt, when in the room.

We do have access to the Argosy room but will NOT be running a lecture stream and so the room can be used as an overflow area if needed.

No catering will be provided by BATC but the museum cafe will be open all day for the purchase of tea and coffee and sandwiches.

Doors will open at 10am and close at 4pm and entrance will be by TICKET ONLY. Tickets will be available from the BATC shop at no cost and include free admission to the museum (normal cost = £7.75)

You will need a printed ticket or on your mobile to gain access and your temperature will be read before you enter.

Note this is a one-day SATURDAY ONLY event but we will be organising a large table for dinner in the Old Mill Baginton on Saturday night - if you wish to join us please send an email to secretary@batc.tv as soon as possible.

The committee believes we can run a safe event that gives BATC members the opportunity to meet friends old and new but we need your help.

Please do not attend if you are showing any COVID symptoms such as a high temperature, new continuous cough or a loss/change to your sense of smell/taste.

When at the event, please remember to wear a mask in buildings and keep a distance that others are comfortable with, respecting the choices and sensitivities of others.

The Museum has a very positive attitude towards opening and we believe will only close if government regulations require it. The BATC committee will meet again on Monday August 16th to finalise the event and do reserve the right to cancel if we think the situation has changed significantly.

CAT21 Part 2 - Saturday October 16th - Online Zoom event

The second part of CAT21 will be a day of online talks using the very successful format that we used in 2020. More details will be available nearer the event but we would like to hear from anyone who would like to present to an audience of nearly 500 ATVers from around the world.

By running 2 events, we believe we can offer something for everyone but we are looking to the members to help make both days a success.

The no-cost tickets for CAT21 Part 1 will be in the BATC shop tomorrow and if you are intending to come, we would encourage you to "buy" one as soon as possible so we can get an idea of the number of attendees.

For those who didn't attend CAT18, this is the hanger area where CAT21 will take place - we are hoping to have a little more space cleared for us.

Your BATC committee met last night and confirmed CAT21 part 1 will go ahead this weekend :-)

A few of us will be meeting on-site on Friday afternoon to set the space up.

The museum opens at 10am on Saturday morning and CAT21 officially starts at 10:30 - we have to clear the site by 4:30pm.

Attractions include:

* BATC shop with rally prices - CASH only.

* Test and Fix it area

* Flee market (members tables)

* Show and tell demo area

Free admission with your BATC ticket - 52 tickets have been downloaded (3 still available) so plenty of room for everyone.

Tea and coffee and lunch available for purchase in the museum cafe.
