Problems installing/running Ryde on an upgraded RPi4

Post by dl9sec » Mon Jan 09, 2023 4:50 pm

Hi,

I upgraded my RPi4 from Buster to Bullseye, removed all the Ryde stuff (including changes in config.txt, fstab, dhcpcd etc.), uninstalled VLC, removed all unnecessary packages ("autoremove") and purged all unused configs and rebooted.

Then I installed Ryde with the install script (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Briti ... ll_ryde.sh).

Unfortunately Ryde didn't autostart after reboot. I checked the outputs and found an error message after building of "pydispmanx" which says, that "/home/pi/pydispmanx/pydispmanx.cpython-37m-arm-linux-gnueabihf.so" could not be found and copied.
The reason for that seems, that Bullseye comes with Python 3.9 and therefore the filename is now "pydispmanx.cpython-39-arm-linux-gnueabihf.so".
So I copied the file manually from "/pydispmanx" to "/ryde".

Now Ryde autostarts, starts beacon receiving (MER 7,4), audio works fine but there is no video (still the red screen "Locked No Video").

Any ideas, what I did wrong (apart from having a working system updated ;) ).

BTW: The BATC stream of GB3JV and DB0OF works fine.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Thorsten

Quite simple. Bullseye is not a supported operating sytem for the Ryde.

Please stay on Buster legacy as stated here: https://github.com/BritishAmateurTelevi ... -batc-ryde

When volunteer time allows, we hope to migrate to Bullseye; but no rush - Buster legacy is secure and works.

Hi Dave,

thank you.

Ok, i wasn't sure if Buster is still necessary, but now I know (and why  ).

Buster again up and Ryde running...
