Hi Brian

Thanks for the info. I note that you are using a slightly non-standard display size (1920x1200); it should work, but it is not one that we will have tested.

Would you be able to test the unit with a 1920x1080 or 1280x720 display and see if the fault is still present?

Thanks, Dave

Hi Brian,

Blacking out when you do things like that can sometimes be a sign you don't have enough video memory configured to create the new graphics layers. We don't usually recommend higher resolutions than 1920x1080 because the higher the resolution the more memory each layer takes, so you are more likely to run out of memory.

It is possible to reconfigure the raspberry pi to provide more video memory, but that isn't generally a supported configuration.

Thanks for testing Brian.

There is one thing that you could try for your larger display. Editing the config file to increase the graphics memory:
  • Log in by ssh and type "stop" to stop the receiver
  • type: sudo nano /boot/config.txt
  • Use the down arrow keys to get to the line: gpu_mem=128
  • Amend the line to read: gpu_mem=256
  • ctrl-x, then y, then enter to save and exit the editor.
  • sudo reboot now
If it does not improve matters, I suggest that you reverse the change.

Dave,

Tried as you suggested, it did work sort of it just delayed the time it took to start going off, have put the original setting back and for now will carry on with the small 17" screen at 1980x1080.

Thanks for all the help again, perhaps it someting to look at in the future.
