Explanation off the signal values displayed on the Ryde receiver

Post by OE1PYW » Mon Aug 23, 2021 6:22 pm

Looking for the explanation off the signal values displayed on the Ryde receiver. What is a good value, what means Report, what means the D, before the number, how do you calculate, what are the maximum and minimum values???? Thank you very much for your help and answer. Sorry for this simple question but I couldn't find anywhere an explanation for that.

Signal quality is measured in dB MER. However each combination of Signal parameters ( signal modulation, SR and FEC) has a different theoretical minimum MER that is required before a decode is possible, so simply quoting MER does not give a direct indication of how well the signal can be decoded.

The D value compensates for these differences and sets D0 at the minimum theoretical level for a decode. Values above D0 indicate how many dB above this level you are receiving.

So a level of D0 should be just decodable, a level of D3 means you have 3dB above the minimum required level for the mode in use.

Hi,

is there a possibility of a display of the reception level (without considering signal modulation, SR and FEC)?

Have a look here: viewtopic.php?f=130&t=7502

I've used the information there to permanently show the D report (dB above minimum MER for good decode) on the relayed video of GB3EY
