Remote control not working

Post by M5TXJ » Thu May 20, 2021 8:51 pm

Hi folks,

Probably me being stupid but I have a problem with my partially completed Ryde. Being an ex TV engineer I have quite a few remote controls lying around but can't get any to operate the Ryde. I can log in via Putty and change settings or edit files fine, using menu 7 I can see which codes the various remotes are sending at which protocol. I've even created a custom yaml file and called it in config but no success, Any pointers gratefully received.

Dave

Please cut and paste the content from your custom yaml file here using the code tag ( </> in the menu bar) so that we can take a look at it.

Sorry Dave, when my custom file didn't work I deleted it and went back to Samsung 32.

Hi Dave

So is the Samsung 32 remote working?

If so, it was likely a formatting error in your custom file, or possibly the wrong name for the protocol. Some protocols are reported that need to be labelled differently in the config file.

If you post more details I might be able to help. I'm always keen that we add as many remotes to the library as possible.

Hi again Dave,

The Samsung remote isn't working, neither was the LG, Toshiba or Philips remotes that I've tried. I didn't try a Panasonic as I saw they definitely don't work. The custom file was for an old universal programmed for ITT remote which I had lying around. In every case Menu 7 shows codes are being received but the Ryde is not responding. I'll try rebuilding the card and see if that works. Once I get it working I plan to code it to a Comag remote and of course will post the codes. Thanks for all the help I've received so far.

I wonder - are you sure your IR detector is working? Perhaps you have the wrong type. Was it the one in the BOM or is it recycled?

Hi Mike,
The sensor is new and the one from the BOM and is producing good codes when using menu 7.

Hi Dave

Sorry to disappoint, but COMAG remotes don't work either. I've just added that fact to the main Wiki page (it was buried miles down the page with the photos).

Worth asking on your local freecycle groups etc - I got a free Virgin remote which I use for Ryde builds. Prefer my freesat V7 one for the home station though.

Me again,

Latest update, Ryde is now complete, all boxed up. I've rebuilt the card and all is working OK other than the remote control although things are better than before, a Samsung remote I have turns power off but nothing else, proably different codes. I'm not going to alter anything though as I've a Virgin media remote control coming. Further update in a while.
