New Ryde Software Version with On-Screen Info

I have just published version 202011020 of the Ryde software which includes on-screen display of the transmitting station's Service and Provider names (callsign) and received MER and D number.

Existing Ryde users can update from the ssh console menu, but will need to reprogram any customisations (such as LNB offsets, LNB power selection, non-standard remote control codes, non-standard channels) afterwards as there are multiple other changes to the config file and it needs to be replaced during the update. If you are using one of the pre-defined remote controls, that setting should be retained.

For new builds, full instructions are on the BATC GitHub site here: https://github.com/BritishAmateurTelevi ... ryde-build.

I have put a limited number of pre-programmed SD Cards in the BATC Shop. Please only buy if you have the hardware ready to use, as I anticipate that I will find it difficult to keep up with demand. If the cards are out of stock when you read this, please don't e-mail or complain. Just be patient; there will be more to come in due course.

Please report any bugs here. For feature requests, please check that it isn't already on our list https://github.com/eclispe/rydeplayer/issues before asking for anything. It just wastes everybody's time if you make duplicate requests.

Hi Dave,

thanks for this.

I've just built a new image from scratch and it seems to be behaving a little odd - here are the symptoms

From power up
1. Longmynd loads ok and displays no signal for a while then
2. Locked output becomes active and displays locked no video with a blue box showing 1255MHz_Custom, G4WIM, 2110_G4WIM_tim, DVB-S2 QPSK 1/2 16.9dB ME D15.9 Report - BUT there is no RF signal of that type going into the rx !
3. Then the display changes to Video Loss while still showing the same data.
4. Using the IR remote and going to power menu restart app causes the cycle to start again at step one.

I'm using a Minitiouner Express tuner which previously worked fine.

I'll try the SDcard in another RPI4 just in case. EDIT - exactly the same result on another stand alone RPI4.

Hi Tim

I'm very puzzled. I've just built 20 cards from scratch (for the BATC shop) and they all booted up and displayed the (broken) QO-100 beacon straight away.

Have you changed the default start-up preset?

Please could you try it with a BATC MiniTiouner? Whilst the MiniTiouner Express has worked in the past, we do not have one to test with, so cannot guarantee support.

Hi Dave,

yes I did change the start up preset to 1255MHz band and preset it to 1249MHz - didn't think that would matter.
Just building another card now and will try as stock on a BATC minitiouner and report back - I expect it'll work just fine on the beacon !

Ok, built a stock version of the code and tried it with a BATC Minitiouner V2.

Starts up ok, displays loading Longmynd then not locked then after a few seconds screen goes blank. Using HDMI closest to power socket.

Logging in via ssh and stopping then restarting the ryde app has no effect - screen remains blank. Different to what I saw before.

I've tried both 16G Samsung EVO and 32G Evo plus cards.

I'll keep testing to see if I can find out whats up.

Regards Tim

OK new version works fine on the beacon with Minitiouner express, but not with my BATC Minitiouner.

I'll make incremental changes to see what breaks it - starting with setting a different preset channel / freq etc.

Ok, so by changing the 1255_custom preset to 1249MHz with SR's of 250, 333, 500 and 1M and setting it as the default start up preset I get the same problem as originally reported.

Changing the start up preset back to beacon and it works fine - so I think it's related to start up present being changed.

There does seem to be something strange with the presets. I could not change them with the console menu, so I had to edit the config file directly. It then worked OK. Strangely the console menu still shows the original names and not those in the config file.

I haven’t had time to investigate any further.

Colin.

Has there been any change to the code that would affect performance on weak signals?

I've been running an 8PSK @ 333kS/s FEC2/3 on 1275MHz into the Ryde that will be used for GB3EY. Signal is from Lime Mini with 95dB attenuator. That degree of attenuation gave just enough signal for a locked picture. On the Minitioune with the same input there was a lot of error correction.

Having updated to the new release I find the attenuation has to be reduced to 90dB.

I'll restore the previous version tomorrow to see if that works as before

I noticed that the SD card mentioned was a Samsung EVO. Those don't work with Portsdown do they? I have been steering clear of using them with Portsdown or Ryde. I may try a biuld using one to see.
