Android Remote Control for Ryde Receiver

Post by zr6tg » Fri May 20, 2022 3:27 pm

I've recently added another Minitiouner to the shack and set it up as a Ryde Receiver.

I didn't have all the additional hardware to add the necessary components for an infra-red remote so I decided to put together a remote control for my android phone which controls the Ryde Receiver via my network.

If you want to give it a try then you can download the https://www.zr6tg.co.za/files/app-relea ... 1-test.apk here and try it out. Setup is simple, just select the settings button (bottom right button) and provide your ryde receiver ip and port.

This can be improved lots of ways, but for a regular quick and easy remote to get going on the ryde receiver, it works perfectly :)

Feedback welcome as always, 73

Hope this helps. I put the link into a QR generator and here is the result. Be it on your own head......

Works perfectly. Many thanks, Tom, for a very useful app.

Thanks also to G8LCE for making the installation easy!

If you aren't comfortable downloading and installing a random apk, then I've now also managed to get it on Google Playstore:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... te_control

APK is still freely available as per normal

Hi Tom,

perhaps I missed something you say: just select the settings button (bottom right button) and provide your ryde receiver ip and port.

I know my ip address, but how do you find your port number, thanks

Hi Brian,
I have Done this recently
The IP Scanner came up with several Addresses.
After many tries I used the Default Port which came with the App
of 8765 and is working well with Ethernet cable connected from my BT Hub to Pi4
Hope this helps

Hi Brian,

Apologies for late reply, only saw the messages now. Unless you changed the configuration on your Ryde install the default port will always be 8765 (I should probably put that in the app). Let me know if you came right :)

No, not currently. Not sure it would make sense with the current buttons, but if there is a need then a control app for android can be made to control winterhill. Let me know and I can look into it.
