Pluto+ over the LAN

Post by M0REQ » Fri May 02, 2025 3:16 pm

Hi, i have just built my Langstone V3 using Matts M0DQW great video as inspiration.
I used a PI5 and a Pluto+.
I am setting it up for QO-100 operation but I am a bit disappointed that it does not work well over the LAN.
At best i get 380 calls per second.

I have a good LAN and my FLEX and Icoms all work fine remotely. I do not understand why the Pluto+ is so slow. Is it the Pluto+ or the PI5?

Has anyone made the Langstone work with A Pluto+ over the LAN?

Langstone was never intended to work over a network connection. However some people have done so successfully using a dedicated direct network connection. It doesn't work well over a busy multi-user network through routers and switches.

Radios like the ICOM and Flex do most of the SDR processing in the radio and only need to be remotely controlled over the network. Langstone does the SDR work in the Raspberry Pi and sends the raw samples to and from the Pluto. This needs a fast reliable connection with no delays or interruptions. Something that is difficult to achieve on a shared network.

Colin's excellent Langstone software over LAN works very well for me on the Pluto +
Using this patched firmware on the Pluto +

I can also tx 4m/s DATV with PD4 which is better than the standard Pluto

May be worth a try as I saw faster Lan speed with it.

Elements of mission creep. The Langstone was always a shack in a box type radio, not a shack in two boxes with a network in between. If it works then fine, happiness, but don't be disappointed it it doesn't.
