Langstone-V2 Update.

Post by g4eml » Sat Sep 23, 2023 8:15 pm

I have just released an update for the Langstone-V2 software.
This adds 4 selectable span widths to the Spectrum and waterfall displays.
The original ±24KHz span remains with new ±12Khz, ±6Khz and ±3KHz spans being added. Touching on the spectrum display area of the screen cycles through the four widths.
The span width setting is stored for each band.

The new narrower spans allow weaker signals, such as beacons, to be seen more easily. This is because the noise floor of the FFT reduces as the bin size is reduced.

Before anyone asks, wider spans are not easily available.

Excellent Colin, that will come in handy. There's always the band viewers lurking in Portsdown for wider stuff after all.
Any plans for adding some of the 'special' weak-signal decoding stuff to the suite?
And how possible would it be to add several more 'bands' for e.g. the Charon HF Converter. Like maybe a separate 'button' to select another set of 12 (all bands 1.8-50MHz = another 11 plus a spare??)
No harm in asking ;-)

Hi Gareth,

No plans to add any decoding at the moment.

In theory more bands is possible. The only bit that would need changing is the selection buttons. I will have a look at it.

Hi Colin,

I updated Langstone via the Portsdown menu and it didn't complete and doesn't start.

I then did a manual install of Langstone as per Github, that appeared to complete but Langstone still doesn't start (from Portsdown Menu 2).

Hi Noel,

I did exactly the same as you yesterday and it all worked OK, both from Portsdown and stand alone.

Update from the Portsdown menu was very quick. It certainly shouldn't fail to complete unless there is a problem connecting to GitHub.

I will give it another try either later today or tomorrow.

Just to confirm, you are using Langstone-V2? Pluto or Lime?

I have also just updated Langstone V2 from the Portsdown menu with no problems at all. (Using Pluto).

The new feature is very welcome - thanks Colin.

Noel - I suggest you install Langstone V1, then install Langstone V2. That shuld give you a new install.

An excellent enhancement Colin. Listening to GB3VHF and the stepped tones sequence show up a treat on the narrowest setting. (Pluto, my Lime is as flakey as a Cadbury's Flake!!)

Gareth,

I have added an additional 12 bands to the software. Normally they are disabled so the software behaves as it always has done with 12 bands. If you need the extra bands you can enable them by setting '24 Bands' to 'Yes' in the settings menu.
The band button then cycles through 4 sets of 6 bands.

The extra bands default to 432 and 1296 but like all the bands they can be tuned to anything you want.

No reason for anyone else to upgrade unless you need the extra bands.
