Langstone Discussion Forum
Re: Langstone Discussion Forum
Looking on ideas to box a Langstone.
I am going to use an official Rpi 7 inch screen (when they become available again)
Google shows a few interesting ideas but the ones I like are housed in an enclosure that looks about 12inches wide X 5 inches high x ?? deep. with a very large tuning knob to the right.
I messaged one builder with such a design to determine the enclosure dimension and source to no avail.
Could any builders with a similer design please let me know what box they used.
I have access to a CNC M/c at work so my preference is metal rather than go the 3D printed route.
Also unclear (until I get the display how it is mounted.)
Some builders reccomend a VOGAD, is there a reccomended circuit design?
Thanks all in advance

Re: Langstone Discussion Forum
Remember - any box you initially choose will be too small. Ask me, ask Dave, ask almost anyone.
This is what I used. An old case
I suppose it is about 10x12x5 and a squeeze. If you look on my web page projects section, you might find the PCB I made for this useful. You will have to order your own though. http://www.mike-willis.com/projects.html

There are lots of very cheap designs on eBay using the SSM2167 which might be worth looking at.
Doppler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
Re: Langstone Discussion Forum
Thanks both
You are right about the size of box Mike, but bench space is limited.
Just been notified that after a long wait display is on its way.
Trying to decide what I will use it for.
Considering multiple switched outputs at the moment with filters in the box.
I have neither yet.
My Portsdown 4 used a Smartpi case but that is too small.
Your pages have been bookmarked tks.
Re the mike amp, I tried one of those a few years back on my FT818, and its a pre amp.
Still got it somewhere so might re purpose it.

Re: Langstone Discussion Forum
Nick, I have two PD4's one in a sloping front instrument case mounted upside down, 7" screen and another which is just a 5" DXRobot screen and a passive heatsinked PRI4 with all the USBs on one side plus a RPI camera and a SMPSU for the 5V. That way I can plug in whatever I need, so mouse, audio dongle and a Pluto/Lime and it becomes a Langstone. Add a C920 and it becomes a PD4.
Pictures if you want.....

Re: Langstone Discussion Forum
Hi Gareth
I had assumed that the Langstone was stand alone initially but now I see its also been integrated into the PD4.
My Only PD4 is mounted in a Smartpi Case with a lime mini.
kike you I plug USB into the side for camera and audio dongle.
What I want to do is make something that contains and hides the majority of the wiring.
The langstone needs a pluto (someone is always quicker than me at grabbing any that come up for sale hi hi) but from what you have just said the penny has just dropped and what I need to build is actually a PD4 with a pluto in a larger box.. so I can add my preferred rotary knob and left right buttons etc for a Langstone but this would then have dual functionality of being a PD4 or a langstone. plus.........
I saw some of your pics on here, and I did wonder why you had included a picam on a langstone.
Now the fog has lifted.I
I will pm you my email address if you could send me some pictures would be appreciated.
PS Rpi 5 turned up last week

Re: Langstone Discussion Forum
The SL6270 was a great chip and I used it in several designs about 30 years ago. Sadly it has been unobtanium for quite a long time now.

Re: Langstone Discussion Forum
The SL6270C is available from a number of eBay sellers for about £7.00. They might not be genuine, but I have used 2 and they seemed OK.
