Langstone V3 Lo Filter & RF Swtich

Post by M0DQW » Wed Apr 09, 2025 10:20 pm

Hi Colin/Anyone...

Thank you for your hard work with V3 so far.

I would like to know if V3 with a Pi5 supports the Portsdown Lo Filter board and the 4 band rf output switch pcb?

I only see connection for MSB and LSB on those boards, but not sure how to connect those connections to the Pi5?

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks
Matt

The LO filter board is an old design and was intended to be used with the original Portsdown modulator. It only covers 4m 2m and 70 cm so would be of limited use with Langstone.

Langstone has 8 band select output bits on the RP GPIO pins. These can be programmed as required from the setup menu. They could be used to control the RF switch board or another external hardware.

Thanks Colin for clarification, appreciated!

Yep, I have the band bits working, driving some LEDS for now until I design something to switch the Pluto output between different amplifiers.

(Off topic) Pls see the issue I recently posted on Github regarding the text on screen when pressing PTT on the UCI.

Thanks again!

I answered the text on screen issue as soon as you raised it but it doesn't seem to have got through to GitHub!

It happens because the Volume up and down buttons are actually sent as keyboard commands which get echoed to the screen by the operating system.

I had already fixed it by disabling the screen echo, which is done automatically with a fresh install but I have just realised if you do an update the fix will not be added.

Just edit ~/.bashrc and add the line 'stty -echo -icanon' just before '/home/pi/Langstone/run'

Then reboot to test.

OK,
I don't know why my original answer didn't get through. My email says it was sent OK but it never got to GitHub.

I will add the answer to the GitHub issue.

Colin.
