GB3IF current status.

The NOV for the GB3IF 3.4GHz Birkenhead repeater was applied for on 3 May 2016. It was rejected on 22 June 2016. This was unexpected, as 3.4GHz was thought to be a 'safe' band with no CAA complications. No reason was given for the rejection, so the application was re-submitted a few weeks later with a slight change of frequency. After a year's wait, this application was successful and the NOV was received on 25 August 2017.

The repeater was intended to be sited at the G3NWR Wirral ARS club premises at Ivy Farm, Arrowe Park, Birkenhead. Unfortunately, a few months ago, it became clear that our time there was limited due to the decaying state of the council-owned buildings. The club is in the process or relocating to new premises which are further than the 2km relocation distance allowed by the NOV. The new premises are at 4m ASL and hemmed in by hills, so not the best location for microwaves.

The search is on for a repeater site within the 2km relocation distance. The advantages of having the repeater on your own premises with low additional running costs and 24/7 access will be difficult to match. At this stage, I'm not very hopeful that the repeater will become operational.
