MiniTiouner V2 - second TS NIM not detected
MiniTiouner V2 - second TS NIM not detected
Hello all,
I have extended my Minitiouner V2 with the circuit board for the second TS. I have successfully programmed the FT2232 module according to the instructions in the BATC Wiki. Unfortunately, I get the error message "NIM not detected, we quit" when I start the MiniTioune V1.0.1.0r beta software. When testing the second channel I get the following messages from "TestMyMiniTiouner_V1_3b":
DLL version: 3.2.16
we have found 2 device(s)

device 0:
device named: USB <-> NIM tuner A
For I2C, we will use this device
FT2232H I2C is open

device 1:
device named: USB <-> NIM tuner B
For TS, we will use this device

FT2232H FIFO closed for TS

I soldered in the additional 10k resistor, but that didn't work either. I checked all the soldering points, connections, voltages, etc. Everything was ok.
Do any of you have a solution to my problem?

Re: MiniTiouner V2 - second TS NIM not detected
The second FTDI board is only for outputting the second TS. It doesn't have a connection to the I2C which talks to the tuner, only the first module can do that.
So the message at the end is correct, it can't read the demodulator chip.
I don't know if the minitioune software was ever able to make use of both TS.
I believe that OpenTuner can though.

Re: MiniTiouner V2 - second TS NIM not detected
Hi Thomas,
For the second output you need the OpenTuner software from ZR6TG. The original MiniTioune software can only handle the first channel. The second FTDI chip needs another programming, as described in the wiki. You need to connect both FTDI modules to the PC, I have used a good quality USB hub.
When you start the OpenTuner software it will see both channels ,

Re: MiniTiouner V2 - second TS NIM not detected
Hi Colin and Rob,
thank you very much for your information and tips.
I was able to solve my problem quickly.
I also found out that the file for the FTDI in the BATC Wiki does not work. You have to use the file from ZR6TG. ZR6TG has a different device name for the FTDI. Only then will OpenTuner work perfectly.
Many thanks again and best regards

Re: MiniTiouner V2 - second TS NIM not detected
I have the following question:
Does the second FT2232 module also need the additional resistor between pin 19 and GND ? As I have some problems with the signal , from there my question. The NIM test is OK.

Re: MiniTiouner V2 - second TS NIM not detected
My second module also has the (same value as the first module) resistor. It runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has worked flawlessly, save when I first built it and the Ebay sourced Chinese voltage converter played up occasionally and gave no output. I re-flowed the joints on it and zero issues from then on. It's been up, apart from occasional household power cuts, for well over 2 years. Same with my Pluto, LNB power, GPS frequency lock, et cetera. I work on the theory electrical stuff usually fails when turned on. Sorry Greta, I don't care
Good luck sorting it out,

OK , many thanks Chris for your reply.
I have not cheked yet the converter.
I will check further what's going on.
