J1 connector on MiniTiouner Dual Channel PCB?

Post by G4FRE » Thu May 18, 2023 6:26 am

What is the part number of the connector that fits into J1 on the MiniTiouner Dual Channel PCB?

I looked at the wiki (https://wiki.batc.org.uk/MiniTiouner_hardware_Version_2) but that doesnt mention it

The BOM for MiniTiouner version 2 does however mention what the male connector is that is mounted on the MiniTiouner version 2 blank PCB

I used an 8-way header on the add-on PCB, then two 8-way single row stacking headers (e.g. eBay item 284929691110 - I couldn't find a dual row type) - probably not the best way but it all fits together. I did have to swap C1 from 680uF to 470uF - pictures show it to be a 470 but mine was 680 and far too high - and crop the stacking header pins a little for it to all fit flush.

It does not mention it because it depends on how you built the original. If you didn't fit anything you could make a solid unremovable connection with something like 612-ZW-08-09-F-D-440-110-ND from Digikey. I used a header like the one for the PI4 in Winterhill but with 16 pins rather than 40. Bit like the S7076-ND but you will probably need a taller one. Pi hut has a page of headers https://thepihut.com/collections/headers

In any case it is unlikely a part that was available from a supplier in 2019 still is now. I am afraid you are going to have to get the ruler out, measure and search though the catalogue for one that will fit. Not too hard with a parametric search. To clear the capacitor, if you fitted a tall one, you may have to stack two. There is plenty of headroom as long as you don't go mad. You could use two 8x1 rather than one 8x2. These are more readily available because they are used in Arduino Uno etc. e.g. https://thepihut.com/products/stackable-header-8-pin
