BATC MiniTiouner HELP

Post by G8KOE » Sat Jun 04, 2022 8:11 am

My main computer has a MiniTiouner PRO2 connected and working.
Feed from dish goes through a line amp then to a 4 way splitter.
The LNB voltage is supplied from my MiniTiouner PRO2.

The BATC MiniTione is connected to my Laptop.
I can receive the Beacon in Graph mode but not VLC.
Unable to decode amateur signals on BATC MiniTioune all OK on my MiniTiouner PRO2

I have included pictures of my tests.
Need Help Please !

Hi Martin,

Not sure from your question but are you saying the BATC minitiouner does not work at all or only in graph mode? If the latter make sure you have 32bit VLC installed. The beacon has a fault, you might be better off trying to receive your own transmissions. Oh, and turn off hardware decoding in VLC.

Hi Mike,
All the picture are of my laptop with BATC MiniTioune connected.
The beacon will display using my Minitiouneer Pro2 in Graph or VLC mode at the same time on my main computer.
On my Laptop the BATC MiniTioune will only Decode the Beacon in Graph mode.
I have reinstalled VLC 32bit on my laptop.
As you can see F6DZP test all green OK on my laptop.
The BATC Minitioune will not decode other amateur transmissions at 333 etc.
My Minitiouneer Pro2 decodes all.

Hope that makes things clearer.

I have just connected the BATC MiniTioune to my main PC with (H)18v supplied so it can feed the LNB.
All is working now on all modes.
I will do more tests with my laptop.
Now can proceed with the Raspberry Pi4 Ryde project.

Strang things are going on when I connect the BATC MiniTioune.
My MiniTioune PRO2 no problems.
I have connected BATC MiniTioune with 18v supplying the LNB.
Laptop is on internal battery when BATC MiniTioune connected my mouse pad becomes difficult to move cursor.
If I manage to launch the software VLC works on Beacon.
Will investigate PSU I am using for strange things on 18v supply to BATC MiniTioune.

I think that points to the problem being the laptop rather than the tuner. I didn't mention USB cables as I am sure you will have checked that, but if not do. I recollect that Minitioune does tend to use a lot of CPU, so much so that I don't like to use it on my main PC because it causes the CPU to switch to maximum performance boost mode and sits there with one core 100% loaded. If your laptop is on battery and doesn't have a powerful CPU, or if one of the codecs is saturating it, or the minitiouner is loading up the bus, you might get these symptoms. I have seen that mouse issue you described with high bandwidth devices (cameras, screens) sharing the same USB hub as my mouse. It also happens when the load is too high for the CPU to cope due to some errant process running.

Now boxed and working.
An intermittent plug on PSU didn't help diagnosing problems.
With LED now fitted could see the fault.
Should have fitted LED when testing.
Thanks Mike for your help so easy to miss basic things like PSU leads etc.
Now time to play with my Raspberry Pi 4 and Ryde software.
Just to add PCB was excellent!
