Low Indicated MER from Serit Tuners

Post by G8GKQ » Sun Jun 04, 2017 7:32 pm

Users of the new Serit FTS-4335 (no preamp) and FTS-4334 (with preamp) tuners may have noticed that the MER readings on Tioutune are not as high as might have been expected with the older Sharp tuners.

Whilst we are still looking into the cause of the different readings, we have confirmed that there seems very little difference between the absolute sensitivity and weak signal performance of the Sharp and Serit tuners. Both units give similar results “on air”.

Additionally, the Serit tuners seem to perform slightly differently with signals from the Portsdown transmitter - probably due to the tight baseband IQ filtering employed in the Portsdown filter-modulator board. Again, this seems to make no measurable difference to the weak signal performance.
