MiniTiouner and serit nim

Post by cashy666 » Tue May 23, 2017 10:51 pm

Evening all,
I have been running a few tests on my Minitiouner and Serit Nim (4334). Unfortunately so far not being able to take an ugly picture. I got together with a fellow ham who has 2 Tiouners one with a Sharp Nim and one with a Serit (4335). Both Serit Nims will not take a picture whilst the Sharp locks in after a short delay.
Are there any changes that need to be made to take pictures on the Serit Nims?
Below is a picture of the Tiouners and a snap of the software...
If I had hair I would be pulling it out by now!!!! So any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

if you are using a Serit tuner it will do 437MHz directly. Looking at the software screenshot you have a frequency offset, are you using an SUP 2400 with it?

As Malcolm says, it looks like you are using the Serits with the SUP2400.

If that is the case, RF power level looks low - have you checked you have DC coming out of the F socket to power the SUP2400?

Edit = just tried similar set up and worked first time@ 250Ks - got to cut the grass so no time to try 333 :-(

Ugly mode works on harmonics, so you should be able to use it to check 2m as well

Hi Malcolm, Noel,

No not using a sup2000 (no idea what that is!!!) just using the pi and a length of wire. I've clicked through all the settings to try and take a picture. To be honest i'm working in the dark not really sure what i'm doing. Ill have another go later.

Hi Dave,

If you're going straight in (no converter) you don't need the frequency offset.

Edit minitioune.ini with a plain text editor (Windows Notepad) and enter all zero's for the offset.

If you can't do the edit just change the offset value (02400230) on screen to all zero's. This will do for a test.

Line to edit in minitioune.ini

;.......................................

Freq3Value=00437000
Offset3Value =02400230
Freq3Text=437zg MHz

Let us know how that goes.

Steve

Hi Dave,

The SUP2400 is the 70cms to L band upconverter we used to use to receive 70cms before we got the Serit tuner which covers 437 directly.

The reason why we ask is because your screen shot shows an offset of 2400.230 MHz in the white box - circled in red in picture belwo:

This means you are actually tuned to 2400 - 437 = 1963.

To sort this you can either try pressing the other 437 buttons and see if the offset in the white box goes to 0000000 - then as long as the green box says 00437000 you are tuned to 437 MHz.

Or you can enter 00000000 in the white box and 00437000 in the green box directly.

The offset and frequency tuned are set up in the .ini which can be edited using wordpad.

All this really needs documenting in the wiki - https://wiki.batc.tv/MiniTioune_software but so far no-one has volunteered. I have written what is on there but not got time to finish and there are loads of people out there capable of doing it!

Hope this all makes sense....

GOOD WORK ALL!
My Sharp NIM and Minitiouner when I was at your house was using a SUP2400 upconverter which worked. There was great excitement for this personal ATV first. We then changed to using your computer and received the picture in Minitioune v0.6 with that 2.4GHz offset. Then both newer receivers did diddley squat. Now I know why!
cheers
