The BATC Committee hope to hold the 2017 Convention for Amateur Television (CAT 17) sometime in September or October 2017. However, we are looking for your views on where in the UK it should be hosted.

Please reply here with (practical) suggestions.

Somewhere less remote (from me!) e.g. the Basingstoke venue again, or maybe attach it to one of the round tables?

We've had a suggestion on FaceBook that CAT 17 be held in Bristol - there are 2 possible venues there. More comments please!

I like the idea of Bristol, we have not had a convention in the west country before. Good motorway and rail links.

Pity Goonhilly is so much farther away, it would be wonderful to have a tour?

Re: Goonhilly...

Yes, great venue but far too far away from everyone!

However... What about having someone on site do a live streamed tour of the facility during CAT17 with audio feedback to ask questions as the tour progresses? :-D

OK, just a thought...

I liked the location of CAT16. Excellent location with easy motorway access and its in the middle of the country.
I didn't mind the location of CAT15 it was a bit of a drive for me but that was fine.
I live in the North West so I would like to suggest the North West maybe Manchester or Liverpool both have easy road and train access.
As long as its in the middle of the country (ish) so its equally easy for everyone to get to I'm not that bothered really.

Glen.

What about Daventry, it looks central-ish, maybe stare at the antennae in wonder....

Not sure about actual venues, but its pretty accessible...

We are still looking for a suitable venue for CAT 17 in the Autumn. Preferably in the North, and at a reasonable cost. The sort of place we are looking for will have:

LECTURE ROOM
  • A lecture room to seat 80 delegates.
  • Projection screen, good quality video projector, public address system. Dais for lecturer.
EXHIBITION/DEMONSTRATION SPACE
  • A room where delegates can demonstrate their equipment and traders can set up their stalls.
  • Size sufficient to erect 20 trestle tables around the perimeter.
  • Good provision of 13A socket outlets.
GENERAL ITEMS
  • Adequate car parking for 80 delegates at no extra cost (ie passes provided if parking is chargeable or controlled).
  • Means for us to control entry to the event and register delegates.
  • Catering facilities offered; ideally tea/coffee/biscuits mid-morning & mid-afternoon, buffet lunch.
  • 20 trestle tables for exhibition room.
  • Access/egress times for set up and take down.
  • Vehicular access to venue for unloading.
  • Ideally space by venue to position one or two outside broadcast vans with attached transmitting mast.
  • Security for equipment left overnight Saturday/Sunday.
Please post here or get in touch with Noel (chair@batc.tv) if you know of any venues that night be suitable!
