Touchscreen Availability and Compatibility

Post by G8GKQ » Tue Jun 24, 2025 6:13 pm

It was mentioned to me at the Microwave Round Table that the original 7 inch Rapspberry Pi touch displays do not seem to be available. I was asked whether the newer Touch display 2 could be used.

The answer is that the Touchscreen 2 is not compatible with Portsdown or Langstone as it is a different resolution and is designed to be used in portrait, not landscape, mode. As both Portsdown and Langstone write to the screen at a very basic level, none of the "rotate" fixes that work with a desktop mode are suitable.

Here is a list of supported hardware, screen and SDR:
  • Portsdown 2020: Raspberry Pi 3, 7 inch Touch display, LimeSDR
  • Portsdown 4/Langstone V2: Raspberry Pi 4, 7 inch Touch display, LimeSDR
  • Portsdown 4/Langstone V2: Raspberry Pi 4, 7 inch Touch display, Pluto SDR
  • Langstone V3: Raspberry Pi 5, 7 inch Touch display, Pluto SDR
Portsdown 5 is under development for the 7 inch Touch display and the Lime and Pluto SDRs. Investigations continue into using the Touch display 2.

Rapid Electronics are estimating 1 July for availability of the original Touch display https://www.rapidonline.com/catalogue/s ... %20display, and CPC are estimating 7 July: https://cpc.farnell.com/raspberry-pi/sc ... dp/SC21225
