Spurious text on band viewer screen.
Spurious text on band viewer screen.
I created a new Portsdown SD card today and I get this on the band viewer screen. Apologies for the picture quality.

The text scrolls when I press the buttons.

Hi Brian
What display are you using?
I've never seen this before, and have checked by building a new card this evening and Pluto BandViewer (I take it that is the one) works perfectly.
Is everything exactly standard for a Portsdown, or do you have a keyboard plugged in or something?

Re: Spurious text on band viewer screen.
I believe the display is the standard 7 inch touchscreen. I didn't build this one myself. I'll check for any identification.
I am using a Pluto.
This is the SD card I built from scratch today while investigating the PicoTuner issue. No keyboards or other displays are connected - just the Ethernet cable and the PicoTuner.
I did have to rotate the display after installation.

Hi Brian
I can only suggest that you rebuild the card and keep an eye open during the build for any error messages.
Sometimes if one of the archives is down or blocked it can cause corrupt installs.
Please let me know how you get on.

Re: Spurious text on band viewer screen.
Before opening the case to remove the SD card, I tried doing a full install over the current install to see what would happen. That cured the problem, so something was missed first time, as you say.
I'll take the SD card out and do the job properly from scratch.

Re: Spurious text on band viewer screen.
I tried a re-install from scratch and it happened again. This time I can't fix it by forcing an update.
I wasn't watching it install, but it would be a big coincidence if it went wrong again in the same place. I'll try doing another install from scratch and watch it.

Looks like a buffer over-run?
Re: Spurious text on band viewer screen.
Hi Brian
This is very strange.
What seems to be happening is that the terminal output from the running process (Pluto Band Viewer) is being displayed on the touchscreen.
The Portsdown build normally runs Portsdown (or BandViewer) as the child of the .bashrc login script (rpidatv/scripts/startup.sh is sourced by .bashrc, and in turn rpidatv/scripts/scheduler.sh is sourced by startup.sh). So terminal output does not appear on the touchscreen, because that is running a separate session.
Perhaps a screen capture of htop showing the plutoviewer process and its parents might help solve the mystery.
