Portsdown with Elgato Camlink mpeg2 ?

Post by ON5KR » Sun Nov 05, 2023 10:42 am

Dear ATV collegues,
Is it possible to transmit in mpeg 2 with portdown 4 and the elgato camlink ?
It would be nice to acces the oldest repeater inputs.
Even in mpeg2 mode it switches automaticly to h264.

Hi

This capability is not currently available. What Symbol Rate and FEC would be required? I was not aware of any HD MPEG-2 repeaters which is why I did not even think of it. Which repeaters?

Hi Dave,

The Repeater is ON0TVO where I (ON5KR and the repeater is not on repeaterbook) have a stream to the BATC website. The receivers are very old Tandberg receivers. But we are thinking of changing them to Octagon SF8008. So we just wanted to know if it's possible or not. Their current setup is 2000-1500-1000ks fec 3/4.

Hi kenneth,

I would not advice to go to octagon although they might be better available.
Minitiouner and ryde on a raspberry gives you more flexibility as its more designed on modern coding.
If you get a few minitiouners you can build a modern digital input for the next 10 years.
